Yes, she needs not be get worried sick over this, but she also nees to understand that her boyfriend needs to handle the situation by himself and not tell her some of the things that happens on the road. He too needs to know when to say nothing, so yes, a learning experience for both of them.

Well in its basic terminology, by saying things like *no harm no foul*, or whatever else, was indeed the wrong advice. A better thing to have said perhaps would have been to tell her to wait till a trucker tells her what could happen. By giving her the advice some of you did, you really mislead her into a false sense of security. I think what I am trying to say is that if you don't know for sure, don't say anything. That way, someone who DOES Know, can be of more help?
And by the way, NO ONE told her about the Safety Dept, which should have been about the first thing to say.

Their new to all of this - they will learn as they go - and he needs to beable to talk to his spouse no matter what happens - honesty in a marriage is a BIG thing - being in trucking they need each other, so to say he needs to keep things from her is wrong!

Leannamarie - just relax hon, you will get good advise on here, and sometimes everyone doesn't agree with everyone else. You and your husband will learn together - just learn to roll with the punches and you'll be fine. He'll learn, I believe we all learn something everyday, chalk this one up as experience and don't be afraid to ask questions - just be ready for the answers!:yes2557:

No, by him not telling her everything is right. In other words, why worry her sick with things that she cannot control herself? Here she is now, worried that he will be fired. If he didn't tell her about the mailbox/accident, then he does get fired, THEN he can tell her he messed up. Anyway, I'll stick to my advice, afterall, I'm a married driver myself. Got many years experience in both.

Yes, RELAX. Let the chips fall where they may, hopefully all that will happen is that he gets his butt chewed out for not properly reporting an accident. What he needs to do is call Safety, tell them he's sorry, but he listened to his dispatcher, which he probably shouldn't do, and they may read him the Riot Act a few times till his deaf. This MAy also extend any probationary period for him as well, so he needs to be careful of what he does.

    Short answer: No.

Now you mean a small mailbox? Like for a house? Not a mailbox for like the post office?

If companies fired every newbie (or oldbie, for that matter) for killing mailboxes or poles, we'd all be buying our groceries at a farm.

As far as his reporting - it looks as if he did all he needed to do. (I know of no safety departments open in the middle of the night.)

Don't let the alarmists make you believe the sky is falling - it ain't.

where in my response you quoted do you see that I gave any advice much less wrong advice? Advice would be if I said he should tell safety. I simply stated they told him to leave and I hope he got that on the quailcom so he can prove it. Because if someone did see it, and he can't prove it then they will deny it.

I bet you were a hall monitor in school wern't you

I didn't give advice. I simply stated I don't think they will fire him over hitting a mail post but it he continues to hit objects the story could be different. By the way I take it you disagreed with what was posted. LOL just kidding I know you stated you didn't know how to multi quote. Either do I.:biggrin_25523:

If you go back and re-read what i said,

*Almost ALL the information/advice given you is wrong*

i left in shades of gray. You saying something about Qualcomm was good, but we all know that the dispatcher can say he later called the driver for furthur information because the Qualcomm *was down*.
And no, I was never a Hall Monitor.

She said as he pulled into the parking lot. My thinking would be a *commercial* type of mailbox for the business, since a *pole* was there as well, like maybe a support pole that holds the mail box? But, I'll still bet there was video cameras for security, since it was in LA.
