i see a 45ft for sale for about 7k and I want to get it. Will I be at a disadvantage on the work I get on a shorter bed? Thanks.
Will I get enough work with a 45ft?

Yes a disadvantage when hauling pipe, over length.
Not a disdavantage when hauling coil depending on the number of them (Fewer the better) and the weight of each.
Brick I think you can get away with it, but you might find the brick load hanging too far up forward onto your first drives making you tractor heavy or that there is not enough deck back there for the rear bundle which might be moved too far forward again loading your tractor.
I don't know how you got a 45. I was wishing you have a 48 minimum.Jardon Thanks this. -
Depends on what you're going to do with it.
Load board FAK going anywhere yeah you'll probably be losing out quite a bit if only bc brokers don't always know how much deck space the product actually needs.
Specific customers/products regular lanes: you'll find what works.
If you don't have the work already: don't buy sonething that isn't "minimum industry standard"Jardon Thanks this. -
Don't buy it. It's cheap because nobody wants it because unless you haul steel/ haul for a dedicated customer then it's not worth the risk. Buy a 48

Great forum and thanks for the insight. I was actually in the store when I sent this and ending up with a 48ft for 1k higher.

Good deal. Now just focus on earning money to one day get all new equipment.

Pipe and drywall would be a problem with that trailer, since so many folks buy drywall in 12' lengths.
But for shingles or brick, the shorter length may mean another pallet you could get on it. -
45' is the norm around my part of the country because of the 65' OA length laws. I've never had a problem with sheetrock, roofing, lumber or anything else.
Lots of 45' or 46' curtain vans hauling the above plus beer/wine/ beverage type loads as well.whoopNride, MJ1657 and Ruthless Thank this.
