I'm so glad my company has arrangements with the local farmers to bring the hay/straw back to our yard for tarping in our tarp bays.

I was angry and upset. But with no one there to focus on,.. it was kind of pointless. Broker would not have done anything. Ask for more money? He cried when I got it up to $1.90 from $1.60, no one wanted to run hay,.. particularly round bales,.. and this was back in 2014. $1.90 was charity,.. $4 fuel,.. I was getting $6400 to run 24 pieces of pipe from San Antonio to Minot. And they couldnt get enough trucks. I ran 9 back to back loads of that pipe before they stopped shipping it.

I had to pitch straps in the wind. Some of the bales were too fat and my 30' straps were not enough,. had to tape the ends together and use 2 straps,.. one from each side of the truck. The wind made it miserable trying to pitch them over.

This wasnt the load,.. this is one I did as a company driver for the same carrier I am with now. But it was much like this load. You know how to solve the problem with running hay bales? You dont do round bales any more. Problem solved! I didnt have much choice in this pic,.. but I certainly have a choice today. Hay,.. just say no! LOL

I told my company I'm only outright refusing to do 2 things. Haul round bales and go to long island. They haven't even tried. After seeing a round bale come off the back of a truck I don't like the way they're secured. I think there should be a strap or chain going from back to front.

I love flatbed! It can be very hard especially in weather but it's all worth it in the end. If you like to be hands on and get the heart beating- flat bed it a good place to be.

Tarping's fun, especially when it's windy, freezing and you're up to your ankles in mud. But I love it
