    Because its Swift.

Take a look at Tesla for your du jour battery robot screwup of the week with another person killed in the mix.

A good winter storm in Wyoming might collect 10,000 dead robots all over the state roads needing a human to either tow them off or reboot them.

If you are worried about autonomous trucks taking your job, get into a sector of the industry where they cant. Theres plenty of them!

I wont steer my kids in the direction of this business, but I have ZERO fear of my job disappearing in my 25 or so remaining working years. But that's because if the road is open, I'm goin. Snow on the radars and cameras, or pop up construction zones arent going to confuse me. And I can hobnob with people.

In my opinion, if you arent an easily replaceable, anti social, fair weathered, straight line driving door slammer, and you'll have nothing to worry about. But if you're in a sector where this is really a threat to you're livelihood, be the guy driving the lead truck when platooning is here. I can see that wiping out a few jobs in the next decade.

Also! Who's gonna insure those things? Sure, the cost of themcwill eventually be cheap because theres no cab, no stereo, no ac, no blah blah blah. But it will cost a fortune to get a policy on one. I wonder though, more than the offset of not having to pay a driver? It already costs a small fortune for insurance where theres someone to point the finger at when things go sideways. Who's on the hook? Is it the carrier, the manufacturer, the municipality, the wifi provider?? Its gonna take decades to build the infrastructure to support the autonomous boogeyman.

They have talked about platooning for decades. I will be in the front door, it will be the same as taking 50+ people out of Cabbage eastbound in a storm condition when they all have to do is follow what I do. (Alot of them didnt know and displayed anxiety that day, so it turned into a 300 mile school for them what a good day that was)

I will refuse to commit my body, life and soul to a platooner with unknowns. I'll do it myself. And I know there are people who wont commit to my tailgate either.

If I wanted to see what is possible in life I picked the wrong industry for that. Because there is no money in it. And if you did find money in it sufficient to stay with it, companies go out of business anyway. Makes me question sometimes why did I even bother at 21? But no, it is what i am and what I always will be. Just rough around the edges which people or companies do not want.

Ive also been teased with lot of love from people who tell me that if I am not griping or tearing something apart to fix it I aint happy. =)

But Platooning is the very last thing I will do. Either by doing for others or joining one because I need a nap. Its just not going to happen.

I have expressed in the past that if I go to Australia and they give me 10 tankers on 5th wheels to run the outback for however long it takes to get that precious cargo there, Im all over it. Motivating. I just don't know why America has thus far not displayed the balls to run Road trains the way the Aussies do.

I actually care very much for bees. There are three hives near me who come out and do work in the springtime. They generally leave me along as long I don't wave and swat, they have a lot of work to do with that pollinating.

It would be interesting when the Amish Store opens again in a couple of months with new honey ready to go for the new spring time. (Hwy 31/Hwy 5 Romance-Heber area, there is a triangle lot there, room for a semi or two.)

Quit worrying; you have plenty of time to comfortably retire before that comes close to happening.

Trucking as a job is on its way out, it’s in a hospice waiting for the end, if anyone thinks their job is safe they don’t see the future, some of the people here are confident and they should be they know they are safe because of their specialized skill, but van and reefer are dying and it’s not going to be better, because of van and reefer are dying these drivers will go into other sections, aka flat bed, or oversized or over weight, then those specialized sections of trucking will be on a downward spiral like van and reefer was.
Don’t believe me? Look at all the foreigners in the specialized world, and it’s growing. Nothing against foreigners but basic stupid business is cut rates to get in and figure stuff out later. While os/ow guys say “I’ll take $6 per mile for this load” there’s always someone out there that can do it for cheaper, and slowly it’s happening, hasn’t effected your little island but it’s happening.
