Judy Love, Co-Founder of Love's Travel Stops, passes at 87

Tom left us about 2 yrs ago. But I kinda wonder if loves will remain the same. Or if it will be changed up. Walmart was a completely different place under Sam. Then after he passed Helen took over. However after she passed. That place went through changes that alot of employees didn't like.

I hope Loves can stay the same. Its the only big chain of truck stops that I deal with. It was cool that Tom got into hotels, and started putting new ones next to his new travel stops. But I did see something at a newer loves after he passed that I couldn't believe. They were charging to park. That was the first Loves travel stop that I ever seen do that.

Get ready for disappointment. It has been shown time and time again that only the almighty dollar matters here anymore.

Flying J was a great truck stop until J Call the founder died. It went down hill fast. Lots of bad decisions led to the sale of the truck stop chain to the Haslams. Jim Haslam was the founder of Pilot. Both chains are now owned by Berkshire Hathaway.

Loves needs to figure out how to build a truckstop that can fit more than 20 trucks

A lot has to do with how much land they can get zoned for a Truckstop.

I'd rather they do what they are doing now.

PFJ will have a parking lot that SHOULD have 20 truck spots and they put 50 and nobody can get in or out safely. I can tell which Love's are old PFJ's by the difficulty of navigating their parking lots.

I've never seen a Love's charge for parking and I've talked to Love's high up's and they said it will remain free.

From what I’ve heard, Flying J got caught up in ‘futures trading’ of diesel fuel. Back in George W Bush administration when crude oil was trading in $110.00-$120.00 bbl range, Flying J gambled on continued up prices, and bought heavy, heavy in futures of diesel, then the bottom fell out of the market, FJ couldn’t even sell those contracts ‘short’ on the way down. Within a few months FJ was nearly wiped out financially. Pilot Corp swooped in and bought FJ.

Depends on how greedy the children are if there are any. I've seen many great businesses go flat down the drain cause the kids are greedy and put themselves before the business.

Choosing my last company, fueling at loves was a factor and I’m glad I did. Great points system, although I wish they’d increase it to 6pts for diamond. Its been at 4 pts forever. Big showers and most of them remodeled. Over all a great experience.

Now the company im going with I will have to use TA/Petro. We’ll see how it goes. New adventure awaits.

The high ups at Loves told me they are numbering their spots in their newest facilities not because they will charge to park, but because they say it aides in finding broken down trucks when a truck calls for mechanical assistance, helps first responders find a truck in the event of a medical emergency, etc. It has nothing to do with paid parking.
