Like has been mentioned, in the future (hopefully it never happens) or for any other driver, male or female........ if you can reach the air horn cord.......... blow that puppy as long as you're able to maintain a grip on it.
That cop would have had a dose of his own medicine in terms of being thrown off guard and might have been a little more respectful had he had about 20 fellow drivers standing around pissed off because he got them woke up.

    Wow, this thread has grown.

Forget the deputy bit for a minute. He made a wrong assumption and handled it poorly. If he was any bit of a man, he would of apologized.

I don't have time to read 23 pages of this so forgive me if what I say has already been said.

Please please please please find a lawyer who will represent you in this. Call the Bar Association for Stanislaus Co. to get a referral to one who will deal with this type of situation.

If you need $$$ to fund the lawyer I think we should find a way for people on this site to contribute. I know I will be glad to. The only way will ever retain or reclaim our rights is by standing up for them and doing so in numbers.

It's things like this, that make me want to actually arm myself. Few years ago we were doing regular runs to S Chicago, several murders happned right in the area, including a truck driver.

Let's just say, at the time, it wouldn't have been a good idea to try to roll one of us... In fact, I drove another drivers truck(mine was in the shop) and found a few teflon coated .223 rounds... I've never even seen ammo like that before....:biggrin_25524:

I use Nosler Ballistic tips in my .308. Nice, long, flat trajectory. Not practical for use in the close quarters of a truck.

I do not carry a firearm in my truck. It wouldn't have done me any good in this situation anyway. I was not justified in that type of use of force. I was justified in trying to stay away from him. And that was all I did. I did not want to hurt him. I just wanted to be safe. I did not act out of anger or obstinance, with malicious forethought. I reacted out of pure, raw fear.

I've heard that a Libertarian is a democrat that has finally learned economics or a republican who has had their ### kicked by the cops. It's high time we make a delineation between Peace Officers and law enforcement officers. They all get the finger from me as I can't tell the good few from the rotten majority while passing them on the road. The one you met needs more than the finger, he needs the whole fist...up his ###.

Yeah, I currently don't carry one either... but your story makes me think about it... what if it went a different way and escalated further(ie got the door shut and locked him out).

At any rate, I hope you take legal action. I'm assuming you were parked at a truck stop, therefore this truck was at this point your residence. So, Costitutional Rights should apply... That's a question I'd like to see answered in court... hell I'd pay to see it answered... you got my donation for legal fees as well.

I'm law abiding. I have never had an encounter like the one related here by the OP.
I am not saying all LEO's are like that
If i need help, they are who I call.
Having said all that, with all the reports in the past of similar or worse behaviour from LEO's, I did not wait until something like this happen to me personally to "never see LEO in the same naive way again"
I also don't have a "naive" utopian view of somebody just because they claim to be men of god, or because they are elderly,or because they are female or because they belong to any other group which seem to be automatically placed in high regard.

To those who express indignation at what happened, is the problem that the incident happened,or is it that it happened to the OP?

If it had happened to someone you didn't know,or were not somewhat familiar with, or to someone who was not a 'nice person' or orto some one with whom you had nothing in common,(in this case, not someone from the trucking community) would you be this outraged? And what if the search did turn up drugs, and an arrest was made, and a conviction followed, would you still be this angry,or would you be saying "atta boy" about this LEO, and thanking goodness that he helped in getting 'one of them' of the streets and behind bars? Answer that honestly.

As I see it,we love to love a victim, but we even more love to hate a villain, and society places drug dealers/drug users/people even only accused of involvment with drugs in the same boat as pedophiles and terrorists, the ultimate villains. Which perhaps explain the 'zealousness' with which the law approaches people accused of drug offences.

And the claim that only a minority of leo's are like that may lose its validity if the system does nothing about them, for as the op herself posted earlier, she has been making calls, but no one seems to want to talk to her,and she is being passed of to other people. And as others have posted, that particular department has a reputation for protecting its own.
If the system itself is slow in sanctioning the rogue "minority",then might as well the majority be rogues. The effect is the same.

I have never been in a situation like that but I know it can happen to me.
