RE:Horrendous explosion resulting from a bullet piercing the tank:

    a) Not likely, but the clean up costs for a diesel spill are astronomical. Guess who gets to pay for it? That would/should be a bigger worry

    b) Now, IF one of the bullets are incendiary (i don't know jack about guns/firepower etc so help me out) does this change the equation?

    2) What i would suggest, and i think it's a good thing to be scared, is to only park at truckstops----well lit and well populated truckstops at that. And IF you are going to stop at a rest area then the rest area should be well populated---lots of people there and best yet is attended by staff.

Unnattended, late at night rest stops are not a good thing. Try to avoid them.

I'd be more concerned with the bullet coming into the cab than my fuel tank...

You can drop a match into a puddle of diesel and it'll go out

Flammable LIQUID is almost a contradiction in terms... Fuel (or any other combustible material) is only flammable on the surface... One would need to contain the fumes and incite ignition in order to cause combustion... Gas FUMES are flammable, from what I understand... If there's 1/8 of a tank of fuel in the tank, and a bullet hits the empty part, then it would still need a spark to ignite and explode... You'd need oxygen for a fire to burn, so if you shoot THROUGH a full fuel tank, it wouldn't burn OR ignite because there is no oxygen present...

I wouldn't worry about it all that much... I live in Detroit, and a gunshot is like a doorbell...
