Oh I really have no plans to move out of Cali yet. Trust me I want to though. I have a daughter that is starting college this fall and another starting High school. So I'm stuck here for another 4-5 years at least.

That's funny that you worked for your dad. I did as well in construction too. My dad had his own company as well. I worked for him and learned the trade when I was 17, 18 and 19. Then he sold the company. I went to the Iron Workers and did that a year. Worked in a grocery store for 7 years. Then went to the Roofers after getting my Class A. Really tough jobs though. I then started my journey as a trucker and here I am. I'm no stranger to hard work either and actually prefer it but my back just won't let me anymore. I sure miss being young.

I also agree that FedEx works you way to hard for the pay they give. They expect the world out of you too. Being a delivery driver for Coke and FedEx were the 2 hardest jobs I ever had. Made good money at Coke though. I'll find something close to home, I always do. I'm in the Los Angeles area so lots of jobs out here. Inland empire is only 45 minutes from me too.

At least at coke in NY its all teamsters and unions so they will take care of you. Which fedex did you work for, was it ground as well?

I understand about you being careful about your back. Guess it happens when you become extremely old and need a scooter to ride along on! hahaha just kidding, had to say it. Seems like you learnt a lot of trades. I learnt carpentry through my dad a little bit, like sheet rocking walls and all that. I thought about iron workers as well, but if I do it I like the idea of electrician since there will ALWAYS be a lot of side work. Just thinking for the future. I only started as a trucker because I got the job at Fedex and hated it so I went for my A and my dad kinda pressured me into doing it mostly. I was doin it when I was supposed to go to heavy equipment operators school but they cancelled my class(two years in a row this year.) So IDK what im doing now, but YRC did help me get back on my feet right after CWF wiped my bank accounts clean, leaving me $20 to my name.

I have never been to California so Im not too familar with any of the areas. With you experience you should find something without a problem. Well hopefully this week it gets better for us

Coke is all Teamsters out here too. I think the problem was they were sponsoring the Olympics that year and we were really busy. It was a hot summer too. I worked in downtown LA and it really sucked. I had a pickup at the time and would be so tired after working 12 hours I'd knock out in my truck and just walk back across the street to work.

The back got hurt in 2003 and I made the poor decision of getting a Fusion in 2008 making it worse. My bad, didn't know any better. I guess some people are helped by it and others it can make worse. Some it does nothing at all. Not good odds.

I worked for FedEx Express. The air freight side. I was one of those van delivery drivers like the UPS guys and FedEx Ground guys. I worked directly for the company. I heard FedEx Ground is owner operators or someone owns the route and pays someone to do it for them. FedEx would make us come in early and work the belt, then we did deliveries, then pickups, then the belt again before we went home. Hard job. I think you need to be ADHD to work there. I didn't really fit in cause I'm laid back and everyone else seemed so hyper. I was one of the higher paid guys starting out. Made 17 and some change to start. I didn't have a route. I forgot what they called me. I would do a route that someone called in sick for, vacation, or to help out on other runs. Also did over flow.

I think Electricians is the way to go. I almost did that too. I should have. I also liked HVAC and would have liked to have tried that one. Good luck with whatever happens. I hope YRC picks up for us too. Guess I'll go to bed since I hope I might work tonight.

Ok I worked at ground for a owner operator. Worked for quite a few different guys due to problems and routes being taken away. Worked 12 hours for straight pay. You were considered a swing driver then

That sux what hep owned to your back though. And yes I hear coke is a hard job. I turned them down a few months ago in nj. If it were the terminal close to my house I might've taken it.

I kinda had the same problem, The Coke terminal down the street wasn't hiring so I had to work out of down town which was 30 minutes away without traffic. Would have been less busy, closer to home and I knew all he delivery areas too. I probably would have stayed cause I was making some good cash and home every night. Coke was a pain in the aass though. They were really strict. They would follow you around to make sure you weren't stealing and locking the truck and side loader doors at every delivery. They would write you up on the spot. This guy I worked with was always saying to me that he was gonna drink a Pepsi on the job. Well one day he did and just happened to be followed. They wrote him up. LOL! That was one of their biggest no no's. Do not drink a competitors beverage on the job. They even wanted us to drink Dasani water.

That sucks about FedEx ground. I forgot they didn't pay OT. There was another guy in the training with me from FedEx ground and he didn't like it either. 12 hours is a long day to work at FedEx and not get time and a half for those last 4 miserable hours. Glad you got out of there.

I think we laughed about that one for a couple of weeks. What the funniest part was, he was always bragging about doing it and trying to get up the courage. He finally does it and gets busted. Don't get me wrong, I was all for him sticking it to the man and that part was also funny. You really had to know this guy. He had the worst luck and we said as soon as you do it you'll get caught. Well he did it and they even posted the picture of him with the Pepsi in his hand up on the board in the lunch room! Hahahaha!!! There were a bunch of kiss as... there and I bet someone ratted him out about talking big. So they made an example out of him. They took his picture down after he starting spreading around "lawsuit!" Just keep your head down and do what you're told. That was the Coke motto. Commies!

Lol that is funny. One thing I'm mad about now is we give 15% of our paycheck to them. And I got a truck with no a/c. If I got to drive it either give me back my money, put a/c in the truck or reimburse all the money I'm spending on drinks

No kidding! I wish they would give me back the money I spent on all their products. I could retire! No A/C in your truck!? That not acceptable. I honestly don't know how the old timers did this job without A/C. I guess we are just spoiled. I wouldn't be able to handle it. I complain when my A/C isn't blowing cold enough.

Yes it's a POS straight truck, no a/c seat broken and bent and warped lift gate. At CWF we had trucks with no a/c but you'd get time at a customers building to cool down wher as with this your constantly outside using a broken lift gate, ive written it up all the time and made copies of it. As per contract of it stays in the city then it doesn't need it but the second it hits the highway it's required too and that truck does all the time. Going to wait till I'm sworn in and then say something
