Because that would require collusion with every other trailer manufacturer. History is definitive. Cutting production is a competitive environment never works. Somebody always cheats. Andrew Carnegie confessed to his biographer that he was always willing to enter into any cartel agreement as long as he was sure he could be the first to cheat on it. Know who broke the Arab oil embargo back in the 70's? It was Iraq's oil minister, Saddam Hussein. Somebody always cheats. That's why the market is reliable.
Will Trailer prices drop?

How many companies supply parts to all the different manufacturers? How many companies that supply parts to those manufacturers actually produce their own products and how many companies outsource production to a factory overseas? How much production was lost when a factory overseas shuts down for a month or two if that one factory produces things for a handful of different companies that supply parts to all the different manufacturers? How much productivity was lost simply due to the 6ft distancing requirements once they were allowed to open back up?

Outsourcing is evidently bad for strategic economical and defense objectives of a state. Unfortunately, in the free trade World, the objectives are not necessarily coherent with those of businesses.
Before globalization it was not an issue. Now it is. How do you convince businesses to bring back domestic output without changing their reliance on cheap labor they find overseas? Especially now, when all the infrastructure was disassembled and expertise long forgotten.
Power have only those states which produce output.
Those who think that they 'own' means of production on a land governed by a foreign law are delusional. Simply, a state without output is an eunuch of a state. The production must be brought back here!Short Fuse EOD, Speed_Drums and Midwest Trucker Thank this. -
People wouldn’t like what things cost if everything was brought back here.

I think one very large piece of the puzzle that folks are missing is raw materials. We are almost 100% dependent on foreign entities for that because of the EPA. Now with the push to electric its going to be way worse. This administration has already said outright that they have no intention of the US mining Lithium or anything else for that matter. Plus the war on coal. Hard to make steel without coal!
