-waysOhh yeah.. he will need that too.. examier will not let you behind the wheel without..
Don't forget your flashers and the horn when you do the backup test. Also if you set your brakes or blow the horn after starting the back test you are considered done. Don't hang out the window when backing up. That is a no no in NC. You can trun and look, but don't stick you head out..
Two other minor things during your hazmat stop don't forget your flashers and roll down the window. During the emergency stop turn OFF your blinker before turning on the 4-ways

Got my med exam in hand! thanks
And thanks for the input about the flashers and horn! Didn't plan on stopping once I start backing, until I'm done. And I'm used to hitting the horn twice right before backing. I don't know why I'd hit the horn again while backing though. And I have been told NOT to hang my head out the window, mirrors only in NC.
As for hazmat... not going for my hazmat, so will I have to do a "hazmat stop"??
I'd not heard of a hazmat stop, or emergency stop during the test. Do you have to roll down the window for a normal emergency stop? or put on your hazzards during an emergency stop? I'm thinking, my main concern during an emergency stop is to STOP!!! Worry about hazzard lights after I can stop it.
Help
Chris -
In Vermont it's referred to as "the hill stop" In my test she had me do it on a fairly serious grade. Goes like this:
1. signal right and pull as neatly as possible on to the shoulder.
2. Cancel signal, put on the flashers
3. Set the brakes, feet on the floor, hands off the wheel
4. Check mirrors carefully, when clear, cancel flashers, signal left, release the brakes and start off WITHOUT rolling back
5. When fully in the lane, cancel turn signal and put on flashers untill you get her up to 40 mph. Don't miss any gears in all the excitement -
Great... test is tomorrow. and... problem
truck/trailer/driver w/ cdl, had problem, lost cdl.
then trailer wouldn't pass inspection
trailer fixed, passed inspection, new plate
then found 2nd driver to go with me to cdl test.
went to practice w/ truck, and... uh ohh.
truck not in great shape... 2nd driver refused to go, explaining that he doesnt' believe the truck will pass inspection for me to even take the cdl test.
figured ok, have trailer, need to rent a class B box truck, and get a dolly, tow the trailer, and have a class A truck again.
nope
nobody will rent a class B box truck to me that has a tow hitch.
nobody has a tow dolly.
so, I either lie and rent a box truck, and go for a class B only
or.. forget it altogether. All this work and money, passing the CDL A tests, the doubles and triples, and the tanker test, all for naught.
I got till 8am tomorrow, and I dunno what to do.
I have a driver willing to go with me, but he won't go in the truck that i had lined up. The guy w/ the truck still says it's ok to borrow, but the truck is missing a handle on the drivers door (no way to open without rolling down the window) and the wiring is rather cobbled. The ignition cutoff switch is wired under the dash, and the truck keeps running until you switch it off manually after turning off the key. Plus plenty of other wires running open under the dash. It looks sort of like spider webs.
So... any ideas? any help? Any owner operators wanna throw me a rope?
Thanks -
I know this is an old thread, but how did you end up making out?

Do you have the contact info for the gentleman who helped you in Wilmington? I'm in that area, too, and need help. Please let me know.
