Have a Wilson 2k that I am trying to get tuned in. How much would you say is a good average length of what gets removed from an out of the box install?

? You can't start cutting till you pull your swr's on 1 and 40. Even then, trim less than you think you should and run swr again. Sometimes you luck out and don't even need to trim it
Ougigoug, RustyBolt and rabbiporkchop Thank this. -
I installed a Wilson 5000 on a Chevy Avalanche and got a perfect match the first time around without even having to trim the whip
bored silly, RustyBolt and ExOTR Thank this. -
Rusty, there is or should be instructions with the antenna that explains this step by step. If they were not there, then go here

As usual, I think there is something else wrong and now the antenna is probably junk too. Live and learn, I guess.
Installed it with a DX959 that checked out at the CB shop in Wytheville. New coax and new mount. I used the SWR meter on the radio and started at the longest it would go. It was reading 3+ on the meter. Kept dropping it down til it bottomed out and was still 3+. I've probably taken 6 inches off and still reads in the 3 range.
Folks can hear me. But say it sounds really weak. And I can only hear folks when they are really close. -
Well first thing you need to do is use an external swr meter. Then go from there.

I recently installed same antenna on a KW t800
With a 980ssb, out of the box works great
Although its kind of tall and hits some of the loading racks and a few bridges -
First things first. Check rf grounds.
Better to use antenna analyzer. If no resonant point grounds are bad.ExOTR Thanks this. -
probably couldn't do that again in your lifetime! !!!!!!!
