I think the stryker is ugly. I checked it out before I bought the Wilson. Be all right on a off road vehicle. Or, these fantasy off-road vehicles everybody is driving around these days. I like the smooth sleek appearance of the Wilson. Different strokes...............

I agree: the Wilson design is about as sleek as you can make the coils look: smooth and rounded and mounded like a Hershey's Kiss.

In comparison. the Stryker folks didn't buy into the aesthetics of aerodynamics. Instead, they preferred the sturdiness look, where nuts-and-bolts and the shape of a 55-gallon oil drum wins the day.

Hey Guys having a similar issue here on myTahoe , I just got a brandy new wilson 5000 mag mount and
boy does it like doing down, meaning the swr`s are lowest around 26.200........... I talk mainly on 27.385 and there 2:5:1 which is unacceptable......... I have been in this hobby for 30 years and have never had to physically cut a whip to get them lower but in this case the whip is just too too long...... Everything else is 10-8........... Oh and the reason I spent 110 bux on this antenna ? I was running a Tram Mag mount (looks like a wilson knockoff) and getting the same SWR`s !

Lotsa ant.out tjere that a whip needs trimming..My fear is if you tune it down that low you will loose some rec..Assumeing we are talkin resonance and not swr....Swr is the last of my worrys..If resistance and resonance are on par tour pretty much sure a swe is gonna be there to..
So my thought is maybe where your mag mount is attached that it doesnt have the gp it needs..

What are the SWR ratio values you are referring to? IOW, what is the value at 26.2 v 27.385?

If the SWR is too high at a channel lower than you want to talk, this indicates the stinger needs to be lengthened, not cut.

I would find it highly unusual for a Wilson 5000 to come from the factory with a stinger too short for its targeted CB frequencies.

Most antennas I have had since I realized they could be adjusted have needed trimming or in one case lengthened. trade in value with holes? When I traded my 97 Toyota T100 against a 2005 chevy Colorado Dealer told me it made no difference to him whether I left my ball mount attached to vehicle. Still have the ball mount and should have kept the Toyota.

Seeing this thread is about antennas..
Why does an ant loose return loss as it flexes while driveing???
I noticed approx 3-5 db loos when moveing vs sitting still,is it cause of an electrical length change???
I only noticed when i was compareing my 10k vs my 7ft skip shooter..vids are on my youtube ch if ya wanna see..

I always figured that RF is reflecting off the host vehicle as the antenna flexes back and forth with the wind load, thus affecting things. Of course, the RF also reflects off of and/or otherwise is affected by nearby vehicles, street light poles, bridges, etc.
