Dropped off the load in Dalton, GA and managed to stay at the pilot for about an hour until the knucklehead
planners sent me my next load assignment. I did find the bird perch but found out K40's maxi mirror mount which I intend to purchase can't wrap around the perch because the "grabbing" clamps are too open. When I have more time with this next load going to ft worth I will probably settle on a Wilson 5000 w/ a standard mount.

All this reminds me when I used to collect Magic: The Gathering cards in high school - an addicting hobby that I couldn't really afford at the time :/

You will need a couple of nuts to go on the screw end of most bird perchs. If not you cant screw them right threw the inside of the door if you ar not careful. Put the 2 screws on and run them all the way up. Then install the perch hand tight. Tighten anothe 1/4 turn (just like a sparkplug). Next run the 2 nuts down to the mirror frame, on at a time (jam nut). Also think of installing a grounding wire between the two jam nuts and running it down the inside of the door frame behind the hinges down to the battery box. Then connect the the end to one of the Battery box mounting bolts. With good coax you should get down in the 1.2-1.4 SWR range. Use clear packing tape to secure the ground wire to the cab jab. I used flat braid wire with ring eyes soldered on.
Tater is dead on about the coil, Higher is better. I run a Huster SCB with a 22'' base rod. If you run a Sirrus or XM boom antenna move it to the passenger side, even if it is mounted on the visor get it away from your CB antenna as much as possible.

You don't need any of that. I have my perch screwed into the door direct, the only way you'll run it through the door is if you go jamming on it with a torque bar. All the extra work you suggested will work but it's not needed. My Wilson 2000 is tuned down to 1.2 swr flat with none of that extra hassle. You just have to know how to tune your antenna correctly.
