Something to think about.
The maximum clamping force of a strap is between the point where you will tighten it ( winch ) and the first change of direction/angle. Each subsequent change reduces this force.
I like 10 to 12 winches per side.

Howdy stranger
Could have used your winch on Monday... -
You should get one installed so's you could stack your jeep and booster in the rain and mud by yourself!!SAR, Razororange, cke and 2 others Thank this.

I have 12 and 2 on the drivers side. No lock so they will slide off the ends. I carry 5 in my tool box and have a rail on the passenger side I can slide them onto. I also carry 4 porta winches that fit in any of the stake pockets.
Options, options, options!Highway Sailor, SAR and cke Thank this. -
Yeah, I thought he said WENCHES too...
Curses....
Well, I will play my favorite Wench song anyway.

Do yourself a favor and put the 3 bar winches like this on both sides.
After you use these for the first time you will cry thinking about all the times you fought getting a frozen strap in a itty bitty slot.
While your fingers are going numb....
A bonus is you can put the straps hook end on them also and tighten from both sides if needed.
Works really good for chokes/wrappers.
It's funny. If you tighten up like normal , then you go to the hook side it'll take one or two clicks to get that side the same tightness. Things don't loosen up any in the first few miles like they normally would. The tension on the strap is equal on both sides and things won't try to pull or lean over.Highway Sailor, Ruthless, SAR and 5 others Thank this. -
Maybe for regular flat,.. but for step deck having winches on both sides offers an advantage for tall loads when a single strap isnt long enough to lock down on the other side and you need to lock 2 straps together. Round bails come to mind,.. tall crates,.. over size crates etc.
I get by with only 8 winches on each side. If I need more I have six 2 inch ratchets to fill the void.
Most of what I do uses chains and binders,.. so not that big of an issue. But there are times when I will use all straps.
HurstDiesel Dave and cke Thank this. -
10 per side, sliders.
Make SURE you have at least 4 between the spreads! Especially if you can't slide past the mudflaps hangers!
Also have some portables. Never know, better to be prepared.1johnb, Diesel Dave and cke Thank this. -
Speaking of winches, I was talking the other day about these to some friends. I'm curious If Anyone here uses these or thoughts on them.
Boa Winch ™ - BOA WINCH
Found a video. Now that's just getting a bit lazy....
SAR Thanks this. -
Those definately look cool, but they also look pricey and over engineered. Let's see how well that gear system works after 5 winters in the north.Hurst and snowman_w900 Thank this.
