I'm perfectly happy never touching Windows again. I'm happy with Linux. Especially with Steam's proton I can run pretty much any game I want.

It is official, Windows 11 is coming out soon. My understanding is it will be a free upgrade for users currently using Windows 10. The only point though is it seems you will need to have a TPM 2.0 installed and enabled in the BIOS before it will install. Right now I can't see any available on Amazon. I'm not sure why they did this and I am sure somebody will find a workaround. For the record, TPM's are generally under $50 BUT they are motherboard specific. In other words, an ASUS TPM won't fit on a Gigabyte MB.

Over the past 24 hours I have learned something more about these TPMs. If you have a laptop made in the last few years there is a good chance the processor has one built into it. I am using a built desktop running an AMD processor on an AM4 socket B450 Gigabyte Motherboard. My MB has a TPM header but no TPM on it. I had to go into my BIOS and enable the fTPM setting. On Intel computers, this is called PTT. Once you enable this in the BIOS your computer should run Windows 11 in secure boot mode. IF you don't see these settings in the BIOS and there is no TPM header on your MB you CAN NOT run Windows 11 without deploying a hack.

Over the next few months, I suspect more info about fTPM and PTT will be coming out!

    Dieselboss Thanks this.

It’s been several years since I had to worry about windows… what is a TPM and what’s it got to do with what OS is running?

It's a secure cryptographic chip and interface that allows the OS to verify it's running on the computer it's supposed to and allowing software to run security measures that should be more difficult to bypass. It will help lock down your OS even further beyond your control.

I actually just enabled mine on my desktop to fool around with it's abilities in Linux. It can store and help create keys which aid in encryption being locked to your computer which is a benefit.
