    TPM

    I too use my windows computer very little. I use my iPAD and iPHONE at least 90% of the time.

    As to this TPM requirement I have no idea. Going back to when Windows 8 came out Microsoft mandated computers have what is called a UEFI with the ability to "secure boot". You can disable this and use what is called a legacy BIOS. The past few years Microsoft it seems also wanted the OEM makers to add TPMs to their motherboards. Now it seems with Windows 11 these items are no longer voluntary!

    Ya, my iPhone and iPad are my main daily drivers… I will be replacing my old MBP from 2010 later this year when the new redesigned MBA/MBP with M2/M1X models are released.

    It's not scheduled for release till Christmas.
    Untill then.. It's all beta testing and you need to be a inside member.. I wouldn't install anything you didn't officially get. And since you're not an inside member.

    if you buy a computer with 10 at the time 11 comes out it'll probably be a free upgrade.

    The rest of us will have to pay..

    Same thing they did when 10 came out.

    According to what Microsoft has stated any Windows 10 user with an activated OS will get Windows 11 free through a feature update after it is officially released.

    It seems any Windows users on Mac hardware might be left out of this upgrade. If I’m understanding the issue correctly, M$ requires some TCP (not the right letters) on the chip for security to allow the upgrade to 11.

    Apple has not used these to date and likely will not be releasing any more Intel based hardware going forward. So these current windows users won’t be able to upgrade.

    hoping the Windows on ARM is a viable option going forward on the new M1 Macs or M$ allows Apple to handle the security features that require this extra part on the chip. Might be other options out there too.

    The correct term is TPM. Almost no PC has this as OEM on the motherboard most don't even have a header. Thankfully most modern CPUs have them on the chip itself. You just have to enable them in the bios. I don't use MACs s I will refrain from giving advice on this. I use a Gigabyte B450 MB with a header and I am using an AMD Ryzen 5 4650G CPU. I enabled my TPM in bios and I am set to upgrade when it comes out.

    DO NOT buy a TPM off places like Ebay before you determine you actually need one AND have confirmed you have a header for one on the MB! Last week I saw a Gigabyte TPM for about $32 bucks, these same TPMs are now selling for $175 on Ebay!

    Oh, trust me! MS is far from giving anything away for free. They stand to make BILLIONS from Windows 11 over the next several years. They made a business decision a while back to allow free upgrades. This helps them with market share. Even with this so-called "free" upgrade, you have to have at a minimum a digital license. Yes, you can deploy a "hack" but overall MS is not going to lose money!

    And to add to this MS has been very silent on the TPM requirement to install Windows in the retail version. What is required is the Insider version, and it's required to be needed for OEM "Windows compatible" logo. I'd would not be surprised if the requirement is dropped for home and even pro retail versions.


    Why not? MS gave away 8 and 10 both to users of 7. MS only charges for windows for new installs, mostly to SI's (System Integrator's. Dell, Gateway, IBuyPower, etc..)
