Yeah, that's the one I was thinking of. I'm waiting for it to hit beta, and am gonna offer to be a tester. Since Steve Balmer took over Microsoft, it's all gone downhill in my opinion. Operating Systems keep getting bigger and bigger, but without a whole lot of extra functionality. One of the things that drives me up a wall about Vista is the vast amount of resources needed to keep it up and running versus Ubuntu. By the way, both Operating Systems on my machine are the x64 architecture. I've got a 30Gb partition on my hard drive running Vista Home Edition x64 with 5 small progams loaded, and the partition is almost completely packed. My Ubuntu partion, on the other hand, is almost empty.
Windows 7, I told you so........

Hello danc694u,
I will tell you from first hand experience, all of my systems have been converted to Windows 7. I am not just saying it to say because I am affiliated with Microsoft. I can truly stand behind this product and tell you straight away it works very reliably, fast and extremely stable. The 64bit version is a real powerhouse as well.
Anyways, what to say about Windows 7?
Let's check out the features!
NEW FEATURES:
There are several new features that are available with Windows 7 that will assist you with deployment and management of a large number of workstations. Enterprise IT infrastructures are increasingly complex to manage. The Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack (MDOP) is a dynamic desktop solution that is available as a subscription for Software Assurance customers. The solution suite enhances application deployment and compatibility, increases IT responsiveness and end user uptime, and helps reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) of your desktop software and IT management. To learn more about this package, please go here: microsoft.com/windows/enterprise/products/mdop/default.aspx
Also now available is MDT 2010 (Microsoft Deployment Tool) which will help you create images and automate the OS and application installations, data migration, and desktop configuration process. To learn more, please go here: technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd744519(WS.10).aspx
Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum specifically for IT Pros located here social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/category/w7itpro/ . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You may want to also check the threads available there for additional assistance and feedback.
Also, if you would like to read what other users have said about their positive experience with Windows 7, you may want to check out the following sites: winsupersite.com/ and edbott.com/weblog/

Hey, John..
If my computer goes into screensaver, when I come back the tray at the bottom of the screen is gone and the only way that I've found to get it back is to restart the machine..
Any ideas? -
Try opening task manager through ctl+alt+del and killing explorer. It should restart itself and bring back the tray without restarting the machine. I can't believe they haven't fixed that yet. Only had 15 years or so.
Ken Thanks this. -

Here's a screen shot, the start menu. The default green theme it comes with is pretty hideous, but you can alter it pretty much the same way you can with Windows. Also, whoever took this shot has their screen resolution turned down, the start menu normally doesn't fill the entire screen like that, but it does give you an idea what it looks like.
You can also stick the disk in while running windows, and install it under windows. This will give you a temporary install to try it out, without partitioning your hard drive. When you decide you're done, you can uninstall it with Windows' add/remove programs. This is a great way to try it out with no commitment.Last edited: Mar 20, 2010

Differance is...I'm not afraid to admit it is a POS. The "average" end user isn't a "hard core" person. They want it today...preferably NOW. And they're not willing to fork over the money for high end hardware.
I am/was running 64 bit, with 4 gigs of ram, duel core processor. Average boot time.... 4 minutes.
I can look at the pretty desk top...for 3 minutes. But can't do #### until WinBlows turns loose of my processor.
Nag screen ?? WTF is that about ? My copy IS legit. -
Interestingly, my roommates are having no problems with their pirate copies. As usual.

Kaji Piracy is the only way to get legitimate service lmao. We go through alot of work to find the copy that works, and is bugfree. Think of it as our way of spending resources for the new stuff.
