Winter Driving; lower temperatures are better. Why?

    I used the engine brake on snowpack in the Northwest all the time, just not always on the third stage. Many times I could come off the hill one gear lower and just use the second stage and everything was fine. Empty I would use the first stage coming down a pass.

    Yes, I second that and hope the OP takes the advice we give and learns how to use his equipment properly including learning how to Jake in low traction conditions and when not to use the Jake. Also, as @WesternPlains stated, use the brake pedal as well because it will keep you connected to the truck and trailer so you can feel if you are experiencing a situation with a loss of traction. With that said, use the big brain between your ears and make good, informed decisions along with learning and feeling how the truck reacts.

    If your carrying any supplies you won't need a freezer not sure how driving in those sub zero conditions could ever be better? About the only thing I can think of is it would be far less likely for a tyre to let go in the cool conditions, which changes once summer arrives.
