Make your moves slow and deliberate.Don't let some Super Trucker push you into something you aren't comfortable with. Don't forget to add anti gel to the tanks. I know some companies don't let you but it will save you from plugging a fuel filter.
Keep the windows clean on the inside too. Use fresh air rather than recirculated air. If you have room a bag of kitty litter for traction. If you get in a situation where the tires are spinning lower the rpm and raise the gear as high as you can without killing it. You might want to lock in the axle too engaged when the wheels have stopped spinning and don't forget to unlock when you can move and are at a complete stop.
The one thing you cannot plan for is the vehicle crossing the median. Not much you do about that. I have seen the results of this and had close calls with vehicles stopping just short of coming all the way through in front of me.
