You can block off 1/2 to 2/3 of the radiator and it should be fine.If the temperature outside goes up in the 20's then remove the winter front.
I've used cardboard or a cheap blue tarp and some duct tape in a pinch.Good to -50.

If engine temp won't stay above 180 or so put on the winter front. Otherwise don't worry about it

Cabovers I ran used winter fronts. Both the 8V92(IHC) and Series 60'( K100 & Freightliner) had no issue keeping engine warm and most important keep me warm being in NW Ontario.

Hey, if the K100 can pass the test of northern Ontario in winter time, I’d say that’s a well built tractor!

I have a 170 T stat in the 93 and the coolant usually stays around 160ish idling in the cold at 0 degrees. Going down the road no matter how cold it stays up to operating temp

Never had to use them on these newer plastic trucks. Old timer said usually if you need one it’s cause the thermostat is acting up unless you’re venturing deep into Canada. I’m betting old iron is another story though.

I’d probably slap them on after November. Only issue is when you start going south to the warmer states you got to remember to take them off.

My 579 has some iceing issues whete in freezeing X if i dont have the bra on it will eventually cover my belts and cause issues. So i have a real thin breathable one i use in those condtions. Also need to use it once or twice a year when it gets down below -20 or so. Otherwise i cant get the engine temp up above 140 or so unless im pulling mountains. But as a general rule if i get freezeing X or -30 degrees for any length of time unless its bright and sunny i typically just park it. Not worth it anymore to push especially with "you shouldnt have been there" being a legal argument to sue truckers and flying now.
