a shovel to clear the bed or your trailer off. Salt to put on the bed when iced over or under your tires if you need traction. A spray deicer is nice if you keep your headache rack locked. Back in the day when fuel tanks had cross over lines I always carried a butane torch with me.
Extra food and water is good. I always carry a couple of candles too. A old timer told me years ago that a candle could keep it warm enough in the truck if you were froze up that along with your bedding and coat you wouldn't freeze to death. -
Pretty much everything has already been mentioned. I will just stress A GOOD sleeping bag. Double boot backup. Most of all; you just can't have too many spare gloves. I like goatskin over cotton. They grip GREAT but wear out fast. I get the goatskin online; 70 bucks for a dozen pair. Most people won't spend that kind of money. But I hate to wear gloves and the goatskin is the only think I found that gives acceptable dexterity.

I can get an entire high vis CAT suit (jacket with hood, and pants) at a local bargin bin place for $20 a piece. i have 4 sets in the closet

As far as gloves, IMHO, do not buy the really spendy ones. They wear out just as fast. I just buy them 3 packs from Pilot. And get some brown jersey gloves for liners. Have several pairs of each. Rotate them over the heater vent, and you'll always have dry warm gloves.

I always had a ski-mask like for hunting. Air line antifreeze. Can of ether. All the above mentioned too.

All of these guys have had good ideas, that work...... however I would add to the list: a set of high lift knee pads.... I have a pair of gels that have the 4 wheel drive grippers and they stand off the ground about 2 inches.... works well at keeping the ole prayer bones high and dry.

Sounds like a side business to me!

Agreed on extra food & water. I started out over 30yrs ago, mostly day/night runs offroad into the many oil and gas rigs in western Alberta. You break down out there and it might be a day or so before someone comes by. Packed a box with a few cans of soup, beans, corned beef and some tea or coffee and 6 candles etc. Also brought along one of those single burner cooking rings and 3 bottles of butane (same bottle as for a torch).
Only needed it once, I was toasty warm and well fed and watered when I got out of there.

I have a good quality pair of rubber (not plastic) overalls and hooded raincoat and rubberized gloves. Its bulky enough to wear over a Carhart jacket and I keep snug and don't worry about wind and cold even in Montana and 10 degrees. Tarping is just part of a flatbed. Got hurt once with a covered wagon tarp in 30 MPH winds in CA. I try to tarp inside or down wind of a bldg. No one has ever told me to move.
