What I referred to was people I saw running North and South. Some had fronts that sections or quarters could be folded back as needed for more air. I do not remember why I saw one in a shop revved up with the hood open and the fan engaged. Someone else pointed out the fan blade deflection as the blades passed that area.
I started looking at them after that and noticed some could equally open from the center out. Old Blue to the left has space age technology air control shutters.AModelCat Thanks this. -
Whatever happened to those shutters? My dad's old '78 KW and my '80 KW had/have them but I've never seen them on anything built after the mid 90's or so.

Why unplug the a/c in the winter? It removes the moisture in the cab (on the glass especially) during wet winter months. When you the hvac to defrost the a/c is actually supposed to come. Turn on the a/c and use the temp. settings to warm the truck and remove damp air from the cab. Running the a/c 12 months of the year will prevent many a/c problems. No it does not wear out anything. It helps everything.

keeps the fan from comeing on

I've never experienced a lot of fan time in the winter any way. For me, a little fan time in the winter beats a/c trouble during the summer hands down. If stopped I will turn off the defroster and use just heat. Then when moving go back to defrost. Or in an older KW when moving use bi-level. That setting turns on the a/c and blows air out the dash and down on the floor.

I totally agree. The AC in winter to remove humidity with defrost is a very good thing
