3G (3rd generation) is everywhere, 4G (4th generation) is evolving. As the architecture is added 4G will be prominent.

In other words, 4G is not available everywhere yet. You probably hit a hole in the 4G network and defaulted to 3G.

I use the T-Mobile, $40/mo for 3g unlimited but after 5g's they cut the speed down. I haven't hit the 5g limit yet and do watch netflix and yahoo movies. For the most part speed is fine, I have been to a few places where it seemed slow.

I understand all that but it doesn't stay connected to 4G. Same thing here as I set in Topeka, KS. I'm getting 4G but it keeps going away. Not to 3G either. It will show 4G but then my computer doesn't recognize it. Then it does. Weird. Don't have any issues with being connected to 3G but 4G seems problematic.

Almost wonder if it's Sprints way of capping the unlimited usage of 4G. Or if the device is faulty. I'll be home later today so I'll go by Sprint tomorrow and talk to them.

Does anyone here know of a mobile internet provider that can be used travelling the US and Canada? I will start doing this soon and would like to be able to use Skype without changing devices and/or provider when crossing the border.
    Thanks!

I couldn't get Inet in my office, so I used the tethering ap. It's called PDAnet. You have to purchase the software for your computer/laptop from June Material for a one time charge of about $15, and get the free ap for your phone. It works good sometimes, but lags other times. But, when you are without inet...it's a Godsend. Eventually, Verizon was available in my area, so I no longer need to use it. But, it was worth the $15. Good Luck!

I use the Verizon Jet pack,
$20 a month to get on the internet and it has 10 G to use as that is what I have on my phone to share.
I can also just use my Android to tether to get on the net.
I use the Jet Pack for my internet at home as I live in the sticks and it does a good job even with very little signal.

FYI all: T-mobile is going after Metro PCS to buy. Metro usually serves the pre paid intercity market and rural areas. This could be good for us in the long run as T-mobile is determined to unseat #3 Sprint or #2 AT&T off their thrones. So you have a determined player with the bucks to back up his big mouth, ok , bring what you got.....

Wow! Another shift in the landscape....... the japs bidding for controlling interest in Sprint / Nextel. Well I guess why not huh, they already own all the Hawaiian Islands so why not Sprint....? ( at least all of Oahu )

Ironic too, wife's grandpa ( WW2 vet ) use to say japs would be back and try to take us again, economically........ wonder if the ole boy was on to something?

Find a fellow trucker that is willing to root your droid. Or install foxfi that doesn't require root access. I have an older plan so my data is unlimited. Verizon used to try to limit data for root users, but the Supreme Court iirc ruled against Verizon. I'm using it as I type this. You can stream Netflix and I'm using my Ipad2 now via Bluetooth. Quite snappy.

The key is old data plan, and droid. You don't NEED the hotspot FWIW. HTH
