goblue: sorry it took so long to get back to you, kinda forgot about this thread. RDTC is still active, but it's also called Wisconsin CDL Academy. So think of it like: Wisconsin CDL Academy, dba (doing business as) RDTC. That way they keep their name and affiliation with Roehl. The cdl test is still administered by the 3rd party that comes in every Friday. Consists of: Pre-trip, skills test (straight line, offset and 90*/alley dock) in backing, then your road test to include emergency stop. Other than that, not a whole lot has changed per curriculum. We still get the J.J. Keller book, complete reading assignments every night plus the classes on Saturday which pretty much mirror the book.
The guy in the class in front of us (only 1 guy in that class due to the weather etc) just finished his test this past Friday. Gave us some advice on pre-trip, such as they now ask you about the air line spring hangers on the trailer. They can not be any less than 12" off the ground. The tester actually asked and told him that's a new one they're checking for.
So far the course is going well, just as expected. Scott and Kevin are our class instructors, I got Scott in my truck. Also have Dale and Brian helping out as needed. We started our backing this past Friday and figured out that our Freighshaker has a very horrible left turn radius compared to other trucks. Oh well, we make do, just makes hitting your marks more important during backing! More practice this week, then test Friday. I'll update ya if I find out any other new things with the test once I complete it.
Be safe out there!goblue and gingersquatch Thank this. -
They don't test out of state students, Most place like the one I want to they test on site of the school, and I need to test in Wisconsin because I'm from Wisconsin. other then that there's no other restrictions that Illinois has. -
and Roehl does recruit from the school i want too
-
Last I knew, to transfer to an Illinois license, you had to do full test including drive and maneuvers, where most other states, as long as it's current and valid it's just a written.
-
How about if you got a cdl-a hows that work?had it for over twenty years
-
Hey guys I have a Texas CDL do I have to get a WI. CDL to go to the scool.
-
If you already have the cdl you should only have to do the 2 week driver training then go with a trainer for 9-13 days. No transfer of cdl should be required.
