That’s what I do. Weekend runs are completely optional.
Here’s what I would suggest. Go to a nearest LTL terminal that covers the biggest area and apply. If you get in, try to jump to jump on either a daytime linehaul or a peddle run that goes 100 or more miles away. That way you’ll still be getting enough time to make a decent living without worked to death like the guys that stay close to the yard.
Wish I knew this before I did Linehaul, governed at 62 mph.

Guys chasing a handful of minutes and claiming this or that will, then, waste those same 8 minutes talking to another driver in the yard or doing whatever else.
Every day/night won’t go perfect, regardless of how fast the truck is.
Having a faster truck moves the goal posts, whether by yourself or the company. It’s just like OD moving the goal posts, by using a faster truck on a longer turn. When I was running IL > CA, I figured out exactly what truckstops I could make it to, each night. I had <10min on my clock, when I pulled into them and <20min, when I pulled into Modesto. If I were in a faster truck, I would’ve pushed myself just that much harder, every day. Eventually, I ended up making myself physically ill, lost 3yrs of work, and caused permanent health issues, pushing myself to hit 4000mi every week. It wasn’t worth it, in the end.jmz Thanks this.
