'Trust me' and 'trucking industry' cannot go hand in hand. Spill the beans, or shush.

Track down Broncrider over in the o/o section for the scoop on Landstar,..He is leased to them...

Pretty sure I've already read all the threads and talked to a lot of landstar drivers. But Landstar is not happening for at least 3 years so no biggie =)

I have never run a team, but I thought the reason you run team was so that you could sleep while the other driver drove and vice-versa.
Could neither of you sleep when the truck was moving?
I'm just having a hard time understading the no sleep thing!

They're typically couples, and generally put in a 14 hour day.
I have no further comment. -
Iroc:
I will let you know that I have run team. Our runs were 5500 to 6000 miles
a week and we set up a program where our truck was able to be parked for
5 to 6 hrs every night for sleep. We would leave on Saturday at noon and be back by Thursday night. I will say it was for a small company and it was a dedicated run, but we turned one every week. I think what you need to find is a dedicated coast to coast run, or what they call a triangle run. I don't know how warner is as far as logbooks, but if o/o are also on the paperless logs I would consider leaving.
When we would run as a team we ran 9hr & 9hr with 6hr off for sleep. if we felt like it we would do a little more like 10hr & 10hr with 4hr off for sleep.
We would also try and get some sleep if we could while the other one was driving even if it was just an hr or two. Our run time also included fuel stop and meal stops, which was usually at the same time.
Try to find a company with dedicated runs for teams that helps out alot.
wish you luck -
To me, this defeats the purpose of a team.
I was led to believe that the reason to run team was to keep the truck rolling 24/7, except for fuel stops, etc.
I guess what you're saying is it is a rider policy, not a team.
Maverickluvtheroad Thanks this. -
I am not entirely sure what dance is describing.
But at Werner we were expected to roll 24/7 regardless of any outside factors, if we had hours on either log. There were times when this was perfectly fine, but there are other times when you cannot sleep due to stop and go traffic, bad construction (hey you try sleeping when the trucks rolling over rumblestrips), or bad roads (Arkansas is a good example). Running on little sleep for a week is not a big deal, but we were expected to do it for 3+ After week one we'd be so exhausted we'd end up having to stop all the time for naps to keep going.
If that were not bad enough, getting time to stop for a shower, or food was a pita. We were typically running loads planned at exactly 50 mph and it didn't matter what roads we were using, if we were stuck on a road that was 45 mph for 3 hours to get there that means we are now 15 mins behind unless we speed.
So basically we were getting very little sleep, eating crappy fast food food or not at all, have very little time to piss, ####, and shower. And on top of all this we still were friggen late.
Now I did the math, it is still possible to run the truck 16 hours a day non stop, figure 2 hours a day for fueling/breaks/loading (drop and hook is what I am figuring right now), 1000 miles a day and still have time to stop the truck and sleep. So I am not sure why its such a hard concept.
Hell I guess I can just become religious and not be able to work on weekends right? Run hard all week, sleep weekends, that would work too.
For the record, I do drive the truck. I do everything except back it, most of the time my husband INSISTS on backing it. He will wake up from a sound #### sleep if I start backing up. Not sure what its about. I've never hit anything backing. Pisses me off because at this point I've backed about 15 times but thats another convo entirely. -
General expectation is, the truck will move for 14 hours a day. More if needed to make the appointment.
You will not get priority as a team would. But you will be higher in the pecking order, than a solo.
I'm not sure what the pay scale is for this. I haven't asked anyone.
