TruckDuo, its great you are taking the time to thoroughly do your research. That's very important especially in this industry. When looking into or choosing schooling, basically you just want to make sure that they are an accredited school and that their track record with the DOT is upstanding. You may want to check the Better Business Bureau also. Other than that there really isn't much to stress about.

Most of the CDL mills are the same. I wouldn't stress or worry about the quality of teaching you are going to get. Their goal isn't to make you a professional driver, its just to help you obtain your actual Class A license and mainly prepare you to go with a trainer of your chosen company. In actuality you most likely learn more on day one with your trainer then you did the entire three weeks at school! Its at this point you want to make sure you are being trained properly and by someone who knows what they are doing. If this is not happening then speak up!

So in short.... don't delve to deep into the inner workings of these CDL mills. Find a halfway decent one that isn't too pricey and go for it. You can call around to some different companies to see who they prefer you go through if you would like. For instance, companies like Crete only accept students from certain accredited schools. So if you are going for a company like this then call ahead. Most of the mega-carriers however will accept you from anywhere provided you are still breathing! With that being said I highly recommend you avoid the mega-carriers if this is something you are seriously interested in and would like to make good money.

Personally I would recommend Central Refrigerated. They have their own schooling so you could get your foot in the door with no money up front. Central is a very good company that is large enough to keep you busy yet small enough to still treat you like a human being! My wife and I teamed for them and were treated very well there. They really go above and beyond to help their drivers succeed and to help them with any problems that arise. This is rare at trucking companies! There are many other good companies out there, this is just a personal recommendation.

Keep doing your research man and ask as many questions as possible.

    Good luck...

Hi Chompi, thanks for your info. I have already graduated and got my cdl through wolf though. I started this thread so that I could connect with other wolf students and get their input. It was an ok school but just wanted to see how their experiences were.
