Wood to re-deck a Stepdeck

    Can't wait to see a picture. I'm about ready to start on an older Freuhauf I picked up. I'll be using hemlock sawn from lumber here on the farm. I've always mixed the linseed oil 2 parts to one part turps. You can't beat it for a quality finish.

    There would be no need to do that with dry wood.

    My step deck has the boards over lapped which is to make them stronger. It is called shiplap, I believe.

    Yes you want it to be ship-lapped or tongue and grooved. Ship lapped is the traditional joint for deck boards. It's not only for strength but to help keep the deck flat as it ages and weathers. The lapps should be machined with a slight bevel so water drains from the joint. Keeping it nice and oiled is the best way to make it last.
