    I drove flatbeds for a major company for 2 1/2 years and quit to for state governement Atlough I earn a lot less, I get 13 or more days for holidays, 8 hrs a month sick, and 9 plus hours a month vacation, I love this place.

    Still want to use your CDL? Check the website for your state Department of Transportation. They always need drivers for various counties and their equipment. Personally, I came "out here" after 24 years with the DOT.

    I just checked with the Indiana jobs bank. If you're wanting to make $19K a year with your CDL and have the endorsement for buses, you're golden.

    It cracks me up when people talk about the fat paychecks government workers get. We sure don't see it here. The public databases don't help, several years ago my father was listed at twice his actual salary with the state.

    In NC check the state government website. You might have to check through all the departments, but most divisions use truck drivers somewhere. Yeah, it pays less than OTR, but I'm home every night, work 4 days a week, and my insurance is free.
