I had a 3yr period where I was self-employed and/or worked for cash. No W2 or verifiable work history. All that was required were 3 people that they could contact to 'vouch' for me.

Don't worry too much about bad decisions you make in your youth, that's what youth is for. I dropped out the very day I turned 16. 16yrs later I walked in, without first taking classes, and sat the "Good Enough Diploma" test. In my youth (pre-17yo) I'd gotten in trouble, been arrested, sat in juvenile jail and was a big enough mess my dad told me I wouldn't live to see 25. Now, I'm twice that and then some. I'm almost the age he was when he died...go figure. People screw up, make mistakes.... the ones worth 'saving' learn and grow from those mistakes.

It may be a illusion, it probably worked out to 70 inches if not a few more inside.

Space is always good. We'll fill it but good.

Thanks a lot for the reply!

Do you have any advise on how to do research on good Trucking companies in the area? So far I've been looking at the list Interstate Trucking gave me, as well as looking at a number online and reading reviews of employees. I've got a list of the companies that look best to me, but how would you recommend vetting them and/or discovering weather I'd truly like to work there?

Talk to drivers if you can track any down. Online reviews are tough because only unhappy people tend to post them. You will find in this industry that many guys would be unhappy if they only had to work 3 hrs a week, made 450k/yr, and got a swedish bikini model for a wife with the job lol... nothing will please them. It's all about what's going to work for you. Pay, equipment, home time, benefits, etc.

The ones that I circled as possible candidates were:
    Halvor Lines
    Hendegaard Transport
    Novco INC.
    Schneider National
    Taggart Transportation
    TMC
    Transport America
    Upper Lakes Foods
    US Xpress
    YRC Freight
Yeah, that's more or less what I figured. I know a guy who works for Halvor Lines, and he says it's great. So I'm inclined to seek a job with them if I can.

I hear tmc is a decent place to get a start. Schneider has the best on job training from what I hear and just about the only lease in the business that I've actually heard of people making work. I would jump on YRC personally because there is real money to be made there but it pretty much all local work so it's not the traveling you would be looking for.
