There is no Federal requirement for a carrier to verify your employment history. Most of the large carriers will pull your DAC and go from there. You must per FMCSA regs account for all gaps in driving jobs. This is not a serious issue with most carriers. Just list the history and account for the gaps, if the carrier needs more they will let you know during the hiring process. The 20 over ticket is a problem, but as long as that is all you have you should be OK, of course some carriers might not hire you, but as long as your legal to drive and there is no insurance issue you should be OK to hire. Just slow down!
White_Knuckle_Newbie Thanks this. -
Go spend 135 and get your TWIC card . It will show companies the government says you are not a terrorist and they will like that you took the initiative to get it.
Maybe your passport alsoWhite_Knuckle_Newbie Thanks this. -

So will this twic card make it easier for me to get hired? I never drove before i dont have a cdl. -
We'll the 3 year requirement is a government thing and it is 10 years of history if you had ever driven before
I had my passport and got my TWIC and applied to Henderson and they did not blink an eye at my lack of any work history.
Granted that was only a pre hire and I 52 with a spotless Mrv record
Now they did call the old prison warden from San Quentin thT I busted out of after doing 30 years for mass murder but I guess I checked out a ok -
Appreciate all the help, I do have a passport so now ill get my TWIC to increase my odds even more.

I am not trying to start or pick a fight. We have new and inexperienced people trying to get information in this forum. Please don't give an opinion or false information. There is nowhere in the FMCSA that says 3 years or anything like that. Its simply not there. Here is the only place in the FMCSA regulations where I have found anything about employment history.
§ 383.35: Notification of previous employment.
(a) Any person applying for employment as an operator of a commercial motor vehicle shall provide at the time of application for employment, the information specified in paragraph (c) of this section.
(b) All employers shall request the information specified in paragraph (c) of this section from all persons applying for employment as a commercial motor vehicle operator. The request shall be made at the time of application for employment.
(c) The following employment history information for the 10 years preceding the date the application is submitted shall be presented to the prospective employer by the applicant:
(1) A list of the names and addresses of the applicant's previous employers for which the applicant was an operator of a commercial motor vehicle;
(2) The dates the applicant was employed by these employers; and
(3) The reason for leaving such employment.
(d) The applicant shall certify that all information furnished is true and complete.
(e) An employer may require an applicant to provide additional information.
(f) Before an application is submitted, the employer shall inform the applicant that the information he/she provides in accordance with paragraph (c) of this section may be used, and the applicant's previous employers may be contacted for the purpose of investigating the applicant's work history.
If you don't have a 10 year driving history don't worry about it. What I think is happening is some carriers are only asking for 3 years general employment history for new hires. But as I posted about there is no FMCSA rule mandating a 3 year history of any kind! -
(e) An employer may require an applicant to provide additional information.
If an employer wants 10 years of history from any applicant, they can do so within the regulations.
I would imagine that most mega's want a 10 year history. I know Swift does.
And it is very hard to start out other than at a mega.
