This is NOT a joke post!
I myself am trying to get myself in both better physical conditioning and better health to eventually learn how to drive a truck, to be able to comply with both D.O.T. and trucking company standards.
Also, I am in the process of cleaning up both my MVR and employment, again, to be able to comply with both D.O.T. and trucking company standards.
I have 7 months of UNVERIFIABLE unemployment from 9/17/2006 - 4/16/2007. I was helping my both of my 2 sisters care for our elderly mother before she passed away 9/30/2007, over 7 years ago.
I have been working as a retail clerk for over 7 years, since 4/17/2007. In 3 more years, providing that I do NOT get terminated or laid off, I will have an UNINTERUPTED 10 year work history to be able to comply with D.O.T. standards.
Due to circumstances and events, I am NOT able to get a notarized letter to account for the 7 month gap in UNVERIFIABLE unemployment.
Therefore, I am working at this retail job, HOPING to reach the 10 year mark, to be able to meet D.O.T. standards, without any doubts whatsoever.
It TRULY & GENUINELY has been a test of both inner strength and will power to hang in there these last 7 years, with at least 3 more years to go.
Health, freedom, & privacy - 3 priceless treasures: all 3 of them go hand in hand.

You can't get a notarized letter? Why not? You don't have any friends? A cousin with a different last name than you? Even a casual facebook friend would likely sign one for you. Tell them you'll take them out to dinner or give them $50 bucks to sign it for you. Heck, call a hooker, she will sign it for you. Go down to home depot one of the illegals hanging out looking for work will sign it for you dude.
Do you know how many truck drivers have a perfect, no gap work history, not the majority that's for sure. What are you gonna do if your retail job you have been working at for 10 years lays you off? What if they fire you? What if a customer comes in today and tells your manager that you cussed at them, and you get fired? Then you have to start the whole 10 year cycle over again! Ha! Good luck with that lol.mje Thanks this. -
This so called requirement gets posted on here all the time and is due to a misreading of the FMCSA Part 383.35 Notification of previous employment rule found at http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/title49/section/383.35.
This rule (if you read it in its entirety, especially (c)(1) ) only requires 10 years of commercial driving history, not all employment history. People seem to read paragraph (c) without reading is sub components.
The FMCSA dose have a requirement to disclose 3 years of other work history I believe but the 10 year item that gets quoted on here often is only for when you have driven a commercial motor vehicle over the last 10 years.
I suggest reading it for yourself and not relying on what others have said. Check Mavericks appellation at http://www.maverickusa.com/media/44131/sept 2014 web application.pdf , it clearly only asks for 3 years of employment history. It then goes on to ask for another 7 years of history if you have operated a commercial motor vehicle. I think a company that has ben around as long as they have know what they are doing. I used to be able to find dozens of such examples but lately most companies seen to all have gone to the same on-line appellation service so Maverick's is the only printable appellation I could fine with a brief search.mje Thanks this. -
If you're not on medications, then why even mention any issues? If you start revealing things about yourself to a DOT doctor or trucking company, they won't hire you. Don't snitch on yourself unless you want to stay unemployed.

If I'm understanding you correctly, Don't tell them more then they need to know, and what about the disability stuff, wouldn't they find that out on there own and fire me down the road or not hire me at all, how does that work? Like I said before, Nothing is keeping me from working, I want to be honest but I agree, if its not an issue and they wont find out then what's the point in shooting myself in the foot?
-
If a question about the disability is on the application, then yes, answer honestly. If not on there, then don't volunteer any information. Some companies such as Maverick and Prime check more deeply than other companies. Where is your location?

Missouri, but I don't have enough work history to even think about Prime who want a 2 year solid work history. I'm already facing an uphill battle when I get my CDL with no experience because I don't want to risk failing in a company school and needing to pay them back, and all the other schools out there are now requiring a solid work back ground because they like to pre-hire people for trucking companies as I have found out. I've seen others here with these issues, but I wont give up, I have nothing to lose.
