1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

In the not too distant future I will be looking to get away from OTR for good and get a local job. Even though I have been with my current company for one year, my work history prior to my current position is pretty shaky. As far as I know, the last 3 years of work history is what employers look at so I'll use that as an example. In the last 3 years I have had 7 jobs, which includes my current job. I'm pretty sure that I would need to stay at my current company for a while in order for my work history to stabilize, and other companies would not be willing to hire me until that happens. Correct me if I'm wrong about any of this. Now assuming all of that is true....how long is this going to take? I'm not in a hurry or anything like that, I just want to know how much longer I can expect to stay OTR before I can make the change. Thanks in advance

    DriveStyer Thanks this.

It all depends on the company, if they need driver NOW, than they might hire you without problems. Other might give you probation contract with smaller salary.

It all depends on the company that you are applying with. Some will run a background check with your former employers, plus do a "Hire Right"(Dac) report. Others will only look at your DMV record and do a PSP. It all depends on the company.

I have had employers look at the work history on my app and turn me down. It didn't get to the point where my DAC would've been checked, even if they would have done that. If I'm an OTR driver applying for a local position, and you're a recruiter looking at my app and you're looking at my shaky work history, how much time would you need to see at one company before moving forward with the process?

That's the hurdle I'll be looking to clear when the time comes to get off the road and start going home everyday. I just don't know how much longer I will have to wait and I'm trying to get some kind of idea about how long that will have to be.

Our guidelines say no more than 3 jobs in the past year.
