You can work off that 1400 calories in the new weight rooms! Workout areas are great idea. And so is the chicken fried steak too! Can't have one without the other.

I have not seen anyone working out in the workout rooms....I did see a fat guy sitting in one reading a book, But he never did anything but read the whole time I was there (about 45 minutes)
There are decent showers and good food choices all around us but in order for those things to have an effect someone has to decide to use them and therein lies the problem.
They won't even walk across a parking lot to piss....So I seriously doubt that this will change anybodys life.
I have actually heard guys talking on the radio about how they were going to a particular truckstop because "They have a McDonalds" How pathetic is that?Lilbit Thanks this. -
misterG Thanks this.

Pilot / Flying J is adding workout facilities at some of their locations as well. However, there is going to be a membership charge for those.
Pilot / Flying J
The rooms at TA / Petro have an elliptical, exercise bike, and (with the exception of Bordentown), a weight machine.

It has been very easy for me to average almost 3000 miles per week and in no way killing myself doing so. I drive about an hour or so in morning while enjoying my coffee and fruit, then find a suitable place to stop. Normally just a little used off ramp. I then go for about a 20-30 minute jog (one week it is a country road through Nebraska cornfields the next time it is a small town in the rockies. OK, the country road in Louisiana in August heat is more sucky, but there is variety is my point!) and then do various work outs on, under and around the trailer. All total, maybe an hour. Then sometime in the day, around lunch, will stop and have a shower and make my lunch and coffee.
It is not difficult getting 10 + hours driving in within a 12 hour or so span. Another thing I do for health is take 12 hour breaks not 10, except when absolutely necessary, obviously, but that is rather rare. Rest and sleep are as important as working out and eating right. I simply do not drive myself so hard and yet every week the miles are there and am normally early to appointments. Maybe flatbeds are different than vans, though when I am stuck pulling a van, I do the same thing. Where there is a will, there is a way. And normally I am not a big one for gyms anyhow. -
Dear (name redacted):
This week is National Truck Driver Appreciation Week and I would like to thank you. Thank you not only for the business you do with us, but for your stories and for letting our employees enjoy getting to know you. And for keeping America moving. A week hardly seems long enough to relay our appreciation. At TA and Petro we work hard to respect your time, your profession and most importantly you, every day of the year.
The comments and suggestions you provide through our kiosk surveys, by talking with one of our employees or by participating in one of our driver councils have made a huge difference. Your feedback inspired TA and Petro to provide healthier food options, fitness rooms and walking trails, our top rated rewards card - UltraONE - and our new pet areas at every location. Making your life just a little easier everyday is one of the ways we want to show our appreciation.
I have had many opportunities to participate in driver appreciation days at our locations several times throughout the year. Our employees have a great time planning and hosting the events. Each location selects the fun activities from hula-hooping and bean-bag tossing tournaments to local bands and ice cream sundaes. Everyone has a great time. Thank you for the many great comments you submitted and for wearing the fun "I support full service truck stops" t-shirts we are handing out at the events for free.
If you keep talking, we'll keep listening. TA and Petro are where full service means at your service.
Thank you,
Tom O'Brien
