Work Zone Speeding

Because it's a stupid question. Why would we know the exact reason someone would speed?

I'm about to drop a bomb here get ready...THEY ARE PROBABLY IN A HURRY!

I just don't get it. Speed limits in general aren't followed, but in the Work Zone??? where fines can be a lot more, where added danger exists with narrow lanes, loose material such as dirt or concrete chunks, on and on.

My truck is governed at 65 so can't really speed on the open highway. But when I enter a Work Zone, yes I slow to exactly the posted speed limit (slower if conditions warrant it).

The beef I have is I feel going the posted speed is almost a danger when people riding my rear bumper, or passing me in narrow lanes.

So I try to think about what reasons are drivers doing this? Its hard for me to come up with anything that makes sense - Why put your driving record at risk, and potential for expensive citation?

I'd really like to hear some answers to this.
Maybe you all are like me - angels about not speeding.
Look I'm not one who follows every rule by the book at all times. Just this one I don't think the blantant risks are worth it.

For example, very early Monday morning I was southbound on i-65 into Birmingham, AL where the i-65/i-20/-i-59 intersection is all torn up with construction....Posted speed says 40 MPH STRICTLY ENFORCED

So there I am in the dark before dawn slowing to 40, while a handful of trucks passed me one by one doing 65 if not 70 mph! Then getting on i-20 East the speed is still posted 40, although the road work kinda isn't really there, but still its posted, and cars/trucks both flying around me like I'm an idiot.

When those speeds are posted and there is no real work going on, I get frustrated too, but sure as heck not gonna risk getting cited until the signs post a higher speed limit again.

Side note, it is interesting to see how different states treat posted work zone speeds. Most of Wyoming on i-80 they don't seem to slow us lower than 65 even when one lane, other states - different case.

I just recently got a 70 in a 45mph work zone ticket in Wyoming. It was in the middle of nowhere. I honestly didn’t see the sign. I drove past the same spot 10 days later, and it only had one sign on the right side of the road. All other work zones I drive through have a sign on both sides of the road, and 1/4 mile later, another set of signs on each side of the road. It was totally a speed trap in my opinion, and is going to jack up my perfect driving record. I hired a lawyer but he says they don’t do anything when it’s in a work zone. I’m mad as hell. Is there anything I can do? Can they throw me in jail for this?

I just got cited for going 70 in a 45 work zone in Wyoming. I honestly didn’t see the sign. It was between Laramie and Walcott and I feel like my truck driving career is over. I have a perfect driving record and am afraid it will count as reckless driving. I drove through the same spot 10 days later, and there is just one sign posting the speed limit. I got a lawyer and he says carbon county Wyoming won’t do anything because it’s in a work zone. I’m going to try anyways. I can’t afford my insurance to increase 800 a month. Is this reckless driving? Will the judge try to throw me in jail because of this??? On the ticket it’s an infraction and doesn’t require court appearance. I think they do this on purpose to raise money and screw up truck drivers. The workers were protected by a concrete barrier and didn’t see it because a hill was in the way. The cop nails you as you crest the hill and start to come down. If they cared about the workers, they would throw up more signage like all the other work zones out there. A total speed trap in my opinion. Don’t fall victim to Wyoming’s sneaky work zones!!!

I can tell you that those who blow by you in a speed zone are the one's who post up here about how everyone was speeding and it's unfair that they got stopped.
Some need the hard lessons of trucking.

Just run the posted limit and you'll have no worries.
And when the driver behind you gets tagged for a tailgate ticket because they couldn't figure out the slowdown delay equals less than 5 minutes, it's they who deal w a potential disqualifying ticket and insurance woes.

You need to contact a local attorney in the jurisdiction you got the citation. There are laws that delineate signage for Federal highways and what and where the signs are to be placed.
If the signage is not correct, the lawyer could possibly get it thrown out. YMMV

That is normal hwy speed around this area.

It's usually 65 all over the Houston area. I know 59 goes back up to 65 when I get to Stafford.

Usually due to the sign company not pulling the signs in a timely manner after being notified by the contractor.
