LostinMS Thanks this. -
I did submit an application to them, thats an easy enough test...hoping to get on with them...I am just a little older than most rookies.
I appreciate your reply -
The lifting test is your average lifting ability and form test. Basically they are looking to see that you lift correctly and you can, at least, handle the occasional weight challenges you might encounter.
I don't remember them all but if I do remember correctly, you take a milk crate loaded with weights and bring it up to a waist-high shelf. Once you place it on the shelf, you bring it back off and move it up to a head-height shelf, then bring it down to the second shelf and then back to the floor.
The heavier test has you pick up another loaded milk crate, carry it down the room and back. I think you do this 3 or four times.
We had some ladies who struggled with the test but most managed to get it done. They are also checking your pulse after each test to make sure your heart isn't going to explode. If your heart rate is too high, they'll have you sit out until it goes back down to do another test. -
Does any1 know if they have any terminals in the chicago area, i stay in gary there is 4truck stops in the next town, will they let me park a truck at 1of the truckstops or at a terminal(if 1 is in the area)
-
No terminal.
They have a drop yard in the area. Down off of Pulaski Rd.
If they are still using that one. It was a Central Freight terminal.
I do not know if they are still using that or not.
It was ok to park a truck there for the weekend though.
And since it was not a terminal you could still bring the truck home, or in your case to one of the truck stops.
Just remember, trucks get broken into allot in your area. At lake Station and in Gary. -
ChromeDome, hello,
Is there any yards in the portland OR area? I can take the truck home and park it in the yard, as i dont know central policy on that? i guess im asking can u take the truck home no matter were you live as long as there is no terminal near by?
Anything i should expect or not expect from central?
Hows the fright goin in and out of oregon? -
Spork man, thanks for the info
-
I live in the east, and have not worked for Central for a few years.
That being said, I spent a great deal of time running that area since they do their best to keep you as far away from home as they can for a while.
I know Sandromida (or however you spell it) has posted about that area in the the past. And she said that they had a good bit of freight up in that area still, and have a drop yard in the area.
But you will be able to take your truck home, since no terminal is available.
They will not make you leave it in a drop yard.
I cannot remember what all I pulled into OR. I know I did some line hauls for Bullet freight out of LA and brought them to Seattle. I dead headed there a few times for Potatoes and apples.
Other loads are available as well though. You would have to ask guys that have been at Central more recently than me for more info though. Plus I was only full OTR with them for about 7 months, then I was on kraft dedicated and ran mostly east. -
On the OR questions.
Ask Smadronia in the Central Refregerated Truck stop thread. She is or at least was from OR, so she can give you more info than I can.
I went and checked the spelling of her name lol.yunghauler Thanks this.
