Sounds good, glad to hear all the info, iv been reserching and reserching about all of these companys hear the good and bad about all, its like picking a truck red or blue, hope central works out for me, and others as well, any other info i should be aware of? that anyone can think of?
Wellness test has been pretty well described. you lift weights in a milk box from 10-50 pounds from floor to waist, waist to head level. You have to do each one like 4 times. then you take the weights and carry them 53 feet 4 times or so. It's simulating your ability to restack pallets of freight, and to be able to carry cases from the nose of the trailer to the end. Really though, we don't do a lot of restacking or offloading of freight, so don't think you'll have to do it a lot. I did 6000 lbs of beer in cases once, and offloaded 25 cases of frozen dinners onto a hand truck, and another 40 into the back of a pickup, but those are rare cases, not the norm.
We've moved since then, and Mikley or someone mentioned Central Freight has moved out of the Bolingbrook yard, so that probably means we'll be moving again. And in Bolingbrook, they never wanted you to leave your truck unless you were in it, parked over night. it's about 1/3 the space of the old cicero yard.
We have no terminal in Chicago. There is a drop yard, currently it's in Bolingbrook. We get space from Central Freight, and someone was recently at the drop yard and said Central Freight has moved out. That generally means we'll end up moving elsewhere in the next few months. Our previous Chicago drop yard was the one Chrome Dome mentioned, in Cicero off Pulaski. Don't park your truck in Gary. If your truck gets broken into, your freight gets stolen, or if someone tampers with Central's equipment in any way to cause damage, you will most likely get fired. Several times a year they put a message out about freight theft, and their list of places to NOT stay always has Gary, and it's always near the top of the list. If you live in a reasonably safe neighbourhood, you can always drop your trailer off at the Chicago drop lot (wherever it's currently at) and bobtail your truck home.
I am a looking for some advice i'm 32 and looking to get a otr career i have been driving for the last 7 yrs with a class b.Central accepted me but i was also offered a chance to train with a friend of my family. He has 4 trucks and he would train me and let me use his truck to get my class a would this be a better way to go .
Just make sure its "verifiable".......Trucking companies love that word but I still don't know the true meaning of "verifiable". All I know is if, down the road, you go to a medium sized to large company, they are SUPER PICKY on your work history. I would be for the 4 truck outfit, but make sure they train you well......
do they take u to the c.d.l. test site before or after u go out with your trainer at the utah terminal
Hey MillisJcw you will be getting your license before you go with your trainer. Your permit is just for driving on the road while in the school. Once you are done with your trainer and you get your own truck they will send you back towards the house so that you can get your license re-done in the state you live in. To all of you considering Central or anywhere for that matter, I would be looking for a place to park the truck now. Central is going to want an address of where you will be leaving the truck when you go home. There are a lot of good secure fenced truck parking lots. Usually cost $80-100 a month but is worth it. I know for sure Central has had their fair share of trucks stolen from all over the country.
Well, I was all slated to go to PAM trucking starting on Monday, the 20th...not a great start already, they were not able to get me a seat at the school, tell me today after giving my 2 weeks notice for my last day being today......I figure if they this got tanked whats going to happen once I am on the road...took it as a warning sign, applied to Central, and slated for school in Utah starting the 27th...hoping I made the right choice.. Based on what I have read it appears that its not to bad a company to work work
i will see you there on 27th in utah, i prolly be the youngest in our class....and i look like im 16 years old..lol...
