To keep the loads coming from dispatch, do you recomend the 500 miles 8.75 hours run time or the straight 11 hrs run time. which is better -
I am planning to go to school to get a CDL with central refrigerated...I heard that they have terminal in LA .....I want to know how much a student driver like me will make during the first year and {they claim its .29c per mile} Can a person at least average $2,000 per month? ..when they say you will be home by a certain date, does that mean that they drop you off at your home town or do you have to make your way back from the terminal? Is there anything a new wannabe driver should look out for when classes start?

I'm guessing byt LA you mean Los Angeles, not Lousiana. They have a terminal in Fontana, CA with a driving school. If you don't live nearby, they put you up in a motel. Moneywise, it all depends on how you want to run, how your dispatcher is, and how freight is. If you ran 2500 miles a week, at 29 cents a mile, you'd see 10,000 miles and $2900 per month, gross. How much of that you see is depending on what your taxes are like, but 2500 a week is doable. Get you home means they'll either get you near the city of your home time request, or if you're within 75 miles of a terminal, to the terminal. If you live in Los Angeles, you'll most likely leave your truck there when you go home. If you live in the middle of nowhere like I do, it goes with you. Where you live affects how you get home. Metro areas have more freight going in, so you can be home more in line with your home time date. My co driver and I have been 4-6 days late getting home because they had no freight to get us home. It sucks, but it's the price we pay for being off the heavily populate path.

Just a quick update.
I am working on a dedicated run most of the time now, in the Kraft fleet.
I am home one night every weekend, and taking home 850 a week.
I am still a company driver with Central and I still like the company.
There are times of slow freight, it happens. But not very often with Central, we just keep on going.
If Danny is still around I have a question for him.
What MPG was your W900 getting? I dont mean what the computer said you were getting, but what was it on paper?
If you were idleing a good bit, and your truck was averaging less than 6 mpg (which is normal with a long nose truck) I will be able to see clearly why you had a hard time making any money.
Plus, after you go over 2800 miles a week you will be paying over mileage on the lease. It starts out as not too much, but goes up fast over 3100 in a week.
Of course, if you had completed the lease, and paid the balloon payment, all the over mileage would have come off of the final payment.
I am sure the final driver to lease the truck will be happy with all the money you left on it though. -
I will be flying out on the 26th to start training, how does everyone like central now? Is everything still decent?

I drove with simon back in 1996 as a trainier, I got off the road for awhile went local and worked on truck equipment, I am looking at going back into otr So is central good company. I prefer to running west of chicago and south Can someone get me up to speed on mileage pay these days,I use to make 1000.00 aweek take home pay.
