Outside of a Union CBA a carrier pay structure is based on how that carrier operates. It's historically the way most carriers have operated for decades. A FM can help some, but not all the time. In regard to said FM, you want to develop a working relationship with them. Never let that FM bully you. However, you should avoid becoming a PITA as well.

It boils down to you the driver. Do the job or simply quit. The problem is as long as other drivers will do it you have no backup.

If you made over $100K a year, would you still have a problem with these tasks?

As long as it's anonymous truck drivers will whine even more.

I would wager 75%+ of the general complaining about industry "issues" that go on around here are done by folks who won't ever do anything about it. They must just love to whine.

At the same time, I am sure if that pay stub has to say 50k for mileage pay + 25k for waiting pay/wipe back side pay/etc. they're somehow better off than the guy in your 100k example, Dave. (Same job).

34 hour reset away from home. Pay me 2 days of layover and I'll reset on the road, or I can limp back from CA over the next 7 days and THEN do a reset at home, for free.

You are not going to argue the company into a policy change. Find a company that already does those things in a way you like or tolerate. Otherwise, the company labels you a troublemaker and will see everything from a tire blowout to being 10 minutes late to delivery in a combination hurricane and earthquake as you deliberately hurting the company.

my company has a yearly meeting at a local hotel conference room for safety related items. we get paid by the hour.

once per month, we MUST call the company for a phone conference call for a safety meeting.

these are required for the company records. kept in file, for any DOT audit.

i put up with the yearly meeting, as it is required.

i out up with the monthly conference calls, as it is required.

what part of "required" are you not familiar with???

And that attitude is the reason this industry has such a high turnover rate.

You accept phone calls from your company without a line item on your pay stub for that? Are you nuts???
