We had a recuiter come to my school in N.J yesterday. This guy sounded like a good pitchman. Yeah I might be going to Werner when i test out of school. I see their one of the few companys that allow pets for company drivers. Yeah thats why I want to sign with them.

When the Werner rep came to our school he started out by saying,"Everyone gets a brand new truck complete with an APU, 52 " wide screen, 7 way 1000 watt stereo, surround sound, Sat TV, etc...". He had everyone on the edge of their seat. HaHa LOL. Needless to say he said he was just kidding and everyone had a good laugh.

I outfitted my own truck with my own AM/FM cd player, mp3 player and XM radio. I have a 19 inch flat screen monitor, notebook laptop with Verizon air card and external DVD player, a Cobra truck GPS and Cobra CB. It cost a few bucks to get this stuff but has already paid off by getting me to the shippers when the company directions were quite lacking. When the GPS is lacking or can't find a new address I can Google the address and double check that with the commercial atlas.
It has saved me more than once.

I wasn't going to get a CB because all I've ever heard was junk on them but when I was at a Wal-Mart DC I backed my truck up to a door and asked the coordinator to call me on my cell phone when they were done unloading. She snapped very nasty,"I'm not doing cell phones today"!

Excuuuuuuuse me! Why does just about everyone I have come in contact with that is not a driver have a bad and unhappy attitude? I think one person so far at one of the guard shacks actually smiled at me. Oh well that's all for now. Keep your posts coming I'm really enjoying your input. God Bless, Bob

Have a cell phone, a cb so you can ask for help, give it and some dc's use cb to contact drivers, it can make a long trip a little bit shorter. Buy a cheap garmin, write your maptuit directions down on a pad and compare the two..and donot listen to recruiters. Ive always wondered if they frequent this site..hmm? lol, boy i tell ya..

HMMMMMMM lots o sunshine an lollipops. I'm callin BS! Sorry saw a lot in 5 years and non of this is making sense.

Bob you are one lucky person to have all of this go your way. I am not disgruntled. Hell I made it 5 years with Werner. I had some really good time if you can imagine that but miles went away and aging parents needed help. So I found a good local job. What you are saying doesn't make sense.

Are you on a dedicated account? Home time when you asked? Sent a truck to the dealer to fix a door? This just doesn't add up, aside from the fact the truck you were issued is considered "high mileage". I know I drove 2 of them and was sent to a terminal to turn them in for new trucks.

Oh well your story hope things continue on well for you.:biggrin_2556:

It amazes me how negative people can be....misery loves company. Despite someone having a great attitude and enjoying what they are doing the nay-sayers are still trying to rain on his parade. Its funny how the people with the worst things to say seem to have the worst attitudes... coincidence ? LOL I doubt it. Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react.

I hope all is going well for you Bob...please stick it out... if for nothing more than to make some of these whiners eat there bitter words.

    GO Bob Go !!

And you sir have no idea what you are talking about. By dedicated I guess you are not referring to werners biggest dedicate out in their family dollar account. If you do not possess at least one year of city/metropolitan exp. you don't even have a chance of staying one week accident free on this account. I did their family dollar account for 6 mos. I would go to some of the worst communities (Baltimore, D.C, Philly, Trenton, Reading, Allentown) and be expected to back a 53 foot trailer to a door not a dock from all angles. Keep in mind, there our no loading zones at family dollar stores. Their delivery doors are in the middle of the parking lot. Their parking lots are the size of the store. Now keep in mind once you manage to fit in the parking lot and get your trailer in position, on werners family dolllar account, it's 100% driver unload. That's right you unload 1000's of pieces through a door the size of your front door at home. The method you ask? Try grabbing 100 pound rollers from the back of your cab to the rear of the trailer to attach to the stores rollers. Then you literally fingerprint the whole load by putting the freight on the rollers and pushing them into the store. Not to bad one might say. I am not done though. Once you get about 15 pieces worth of freight on the rollers, you have to stop to ensure that the store is actually unloading on their end. Usually because they have to keep low labor the one person that was going to be unloading has to also run back in forth to the register. Now, this delay might not sem like a big deal but hear me out. Werner expects us to unload 300 pieces of freight per hour and they schedule our next stops based on that unload rate. Most loads have four stops and avg between 800 to 1100 pieces. Now, as we werner drivers know, there is no way to cheat the paperless log system. So most of the time, I wouldn't be able to even finish one days worth of deliveries in a 14 hour window. In conclusion, before you say dedicated accounts are gravy, try talking to a driver that has done them. If you continue to pass the mis-info around, werner will continue to get new drivers on this account that are having accidents and tarnishing there mvr's due to a lack of adequate exp.

No skill? OK so this is an old response, however I am going to set the record straight. The dedicated account I was on required Hazmat and I also had tanker which was also used on the account. Not only that but refer trailers (tempeture controlled) were run on this account. You did need skills to be on this account and believe me in the 4+ years on the account I saw a lot of things and a lot of people come and go. Mainly due to the fact that they had no skills.

As for the bitterness posted above, not the case. Just trying to keep this a little more in reality. Bob seems to have a lot going for him and that is fantastic, however not the norm at Werner and all newbies reading this should take that into consideration. Bob is very correct in that attitude is a lot of it. It is obvious he is making the most of it.:biggrin_25514:
    Ya'll be safe out there.
