So Joe tell me something. Should I have turned down the opportunity to drive and learn the business and just sit at home waiting for the one great job. The great thing about this company is that they are hiring people with no experience and after I get a years experience I can reevaluate. I think I will last that long. Don't think for a minute that I don't have a plan or am a dumb wannabe. The fact that you have driven 1 million miles is great but if it was so bad why did't you get out sooner?

Just ignore him Bob.... maybe he will find someone else to annoy with his whiny posts. I doubt it tho... but it would be interesting to know why he did stay there so long...Im sure we wont get a truthful answer tho...just more rhetoric from a disgruntled employee.

Back on track tho how is your experience going ?

Not bad so far. I got in 2600 miles last week so for me that was good. I'm learning quickly and I'm definitely enjoying the experience. The thing is I don't complain about anything. I look at the positive side and try to shut out all the rhetoric. If I listened to all the BS that flies around here I would soon get disheartened and pack my bags.

When I decided to get into this business I knew some weeks would be worse than others. And they have been. Eventually I plan to drive closer to home with this company or the next. The problem is you can't do that without experience. Hence here I am.

You know I used to drive a concrete mixer for about 8 years and we used to have a saying. "I don't know what I'd do if I had to get a real job". Driving is a piece of cake. Guess what, I worked for 28 years with very heavy machinery with not one injury. If I had been a trucker how many safe miles do you think that would equate to? One thing I hate is when truckers throw there safe miles around and everyone is supposed to bow down.
Guess what wherever you work it's just a job and when it's you against them you will lose every time no matter who you are working for.

    Thanks for the posts Bob,

It's been nice to read about your experiences.

I will be in trucking school starting this Monday and I have been preapproved with werner.

I hope that with hard work I can be as successful as you.

It all depends what your definition of success is. If your looking for a company to gain some good experience with then Werner is the one. I haven't worked long enough to know what to expect in the future. Believe me contrary to what some people have posted I'm not trying to sugar coat things.

My school recruiter said to take whatever they give you without complaint and do it with a good attitude. Naturally you will get the junk to start. He said they will eventually start giving you better loads. It's pretty much worked out that way so far.

My dispatcher has 70 truckers to deal with. How many of those do you think complain? I don't know the number but judging by the number of whiny posts and people I've met so far I'll bet it's high.
They don't need one more whiner.

Here are a couple of good reads that will help anyone to have a better attitude, John Maxwell's "The 21 Indisputable Laws of Leadership". It's an easy read, and entertaining at times. It will give you some insight to human nature and how not only to learn leadership skills, but what makes people act the way they do. It will teach you how to interact with people in a positive way. I used to teach the course at my last company and know anyone will profit from the principals in this book.

The other book you have probably heard of since it was written in the early 1900's. Dale Carnegie's "How to Win Friends and Influence People". This is the best book I have ever read on human interaction. Read and practice the principals in this book and you can't help but profit. Anyway that's all I have to say now so be good, safe , and keep positive! God says "count it all joy"

Bon,I'm glad you are having a good go of it. I tried using the same attitude you are using, but they feel I lied about something on the job app. But they don't stop there, first put on dac that I quit, then when I asked what will they tell prospective new employers, they changed it to dismissed. Then when I went for unemployment Werner told them I was laid off due to lack of work.a plus for me,but still hard to find anything being I didn't get enough experience. Enough whining, again good luck

BoB with respect to the above, aren’t you paid detention after 2 hours? Hence, shouldn’t you have received 12 hours of detention pay? How much per hour does Werner pay?
