I’ve put in a lot of effort getting into better shape these past several months. I’m below 170# for the first time in probably 15 years, and my waist has dropped a couple of inches, too. I’m doing the crossrope exercise app 3-4 times a week, with weight training in between. I’ve also started the Mediterranean diet (but man I miss my Friday night ribeye steaks).
I want to keep this up if and when I get on the road. I plan on doing a 16 minute workout on my 30 minute breaks at a minimum, or maybe at the end of the day if I’m not too beat. If I have more time, I’ll do longer workouts. The following question refer to major truck stop chains or rest areas off the interstates.
1) If I set up my workout mat right in front of my truck, would that be safe? I’ve seen videos of drivers that use every inch of space in front of a row of trucks to make a turn, and it would defeat the purpose of working out if I’m squished like a bug.
2) How much space is usually between the trailers? I think I could jump rope between them if there’s 36-40”.
3) Is there enough other ambient noise at a truck stop at 4 a.m. that the rhythmic sound of a 1 or 2 lb jumprope thwacking against a rubber mat wouldn’t drive someone to beat my @zz?
4) If I moved toward the rear of the trailers and away from the sleepers, and it’s nighttime, am I setting myself up to be mugged by a meth addict camped in the woods?
I know I probably won’t ever workout at a flatbed shipper or receiver because they want you suited up with all your PPE. Sketchy independent truck stops I’ll stay inside.
I’ve been reading another current thread on self-defense weapons, and it got me thinking about how safe it is out there.

I would say 90% of truckstops you don't have to worry about self defense at all.
I would be more inclined to just leave yourself an extra 5 foot behind your trailer than in front of your truck, back the rest of the way up when you're done.spindrift, MericanMade and Smut Thank this. -
Background...I'm an older lady. Not old exactly LoL. 51. Desk jockey until 2019. I'm not a fearful type of person but I'm not a risk taker.
From my research....1. Intake of food will impact your waist more than exersize. 2. Regardless of what shape you have, regular amounts of movement are vital for you to keep moving when you get my age or older. The more you can move the better. If you can add weight bearing, fantastic.
My solution has been cooking what I eat, no premade food except if i stay at a small t.s. I buy some small junk food thing to support the business. But as a regular thing no. Flatbed is a good enough amount of movement for me during the cold and rain or snow. In nice weather I try to walk more and buying groceries at Aldi's I often get to walk a bit from a parkable area to the store. And then carry my bags back....
Incorporating movement into the whole day works best for me. Get out of the truck every 3+/- hours. Walk around the truck after I go use the restroom. Perhaps weighted ankles or something similar would be good for you?
The workout routine is great if you can keep it up but making movement a basic part of the day makes impossible to skip out....AModelCat and HoneyBadger67 Thank this. -
Most truck stops have area behind the parking spots. With grass or gravel or whatever. If u park during the day there will be open spots in the very back where u will have enough room.

Look up Vera Wang. She just put out pictures of her in some of her fancy clothes. I knew the name but I don't dress like that and I don't shop like that so I was unaware until I clicked the link....
She's beautiful.
She's 70 years old and in fantastic condition.
And she says she works with small weights a few minutes every day.

Even if you use a mat, you would have to store the mat in your truck. Eww.
