Yeah, didn't help my marriage any, that's for sure. CB radio saved MY life( and whoever's life I was talking to) many times. One job I had, was 5pm to 5am, 4 nights on, 2 off. But that was weekends, holidays, the trucks ran 'round the clock, everyday. That was probably the most predictable job, but at the time, it was an hour commute both ways, and that didn't leave much "home" time either.

I just been offered linehaul position that starts at 7pm. Terminal manager told the latest I will be back at home terminal would be 7am but most drivers get back between 5am-6am. It doesn't seem to bad. I used to do nights as an OTR driver and I kinda liked it.

that's like my job now, but it is not line haul, it is dedicated freight for one customer.

in the past, i did run line haul for a major LTL company, and yes, i too was home around those hours, most mornings.

I don't mind working nights. I'm working nights right now in the oilfield and would rather that over days. Less chance for Mr. DOT to pick on you, don't have to worry about logs running local, i love it but I'm young still and a night owl.

Usually work 4-4 or 5-5 and I'm sleeping by 6:30-7:30 and up by 1-2 in the afternoon. Maybe I'm strange but I sleep like a baby with the sun out and wake up ready to go. Although will see how it changes 15 years down the road

Be thankful you could take to that. Not every driver can. God knows I couldn’t.

It’s even better when you get back thinking you’re done and the pricks decide to surprise with some sort-and-segregate delivery somewhere that’ll take 4 hours.

Good luck sleeping through the day after that.

The OTR guys get to shut down wherever they park. That’s the advantage they have over us, where we have to deal with things like the commute.

Doesn’t happen at my barn. Walk in, drop off handheld and paperwork and leave.

    “But, but...

We can’t put something like that on a peddle route. He’ll have eleventeen returns. It’s better to send one of you linehaul drones so it won’t matter if it takes all day”.

The secret is going to sleep 8 hours before you head out to work.
