I have some coustomers that require workers comp. I got a certificate of compliance letter from the states work force safety division that states that I am in compliance with state law and in good standing with the state. And I send that whenever workman's comp is requested never had a issue

Workmanscomp has been a good asset. One incident where a untrimmed metal edge slashed the hand open and exposing the sample tray to human blood was taken care of pronto by WC. At that time medical bills totaled 500 dollars roughly. 100 to sew it, 400 for pictures. I was even when the smoke cleared on that one injury.

I understand where you're coming from but workmans comp is around $13k a year... I'll pay $1000 out of pocket every six months for an injury like that and still save $$11k at the end of the year. Also, in a lot of states an owner of the s-corp cannot collect from WC.

Little update. I spoke with two more carriers today. They both want WC. Heres the kicker... once leased on you can jump on their WC. They both charge around $80 for WC per $1,000 in payroll. The problem is.... I've never seen a rate that low for WC for a truck driver. I have a very good reason to believe that this "workmans comp" they're both talking about is actually occupational insurance ...which you can get for $130 a month.

    Then we understand each other.

Hmm. I rather you put up the 12K against cuts and bumps for the rest of the year on the workforce. Rather than turn that over to the State IMHO.

I would totally drop it into my maintenance fund... Anywhdre smart, as long as it doesn't go to the state. We all know how money that goes to the state is just as good as if it was burned.

i remember one time i laid my elbow open really bad working on the truck in the shop on a sunday. it was kinda stupid too i started the pressure washer and when pulled the pull cord i racked my elbow on the bracket for the track on the roll up door. when i went into get stitched up they asked me about 1000 times if i was working when it happened i kept telling them no. its like look im self employed i don't have workman's comp im paying cash just stitch me up...lol

i wouldn't mind having wormans comp if i could get it at say under 100 bucks per month. but really iv had very low medical expenses total in my life it doesn't really make sense to me if something happens ill just pay for it.
