I totally get the smoking part and maybe some day I will quit and I also respected the guy for telling me no smoking up front. But you gotta be realistic with what you can do and what is going to cause unnecessary stress. People fail because they aren't realistic about what they can do and not do. I was just being honest.

Not trying to sound defensive but I can hack being alone, have literally been on my own since 14 and was lucky to have my friend's family feed me if I was hungry. So hacking alone is what I do best! I shouldn't have shared the rest, my mistake, bad night. Can't expect anyone to understand that part....

I do want to thank those who gave straight advice but also aren't afraid to encourage someone when they are down. Ranci is right as were some of the others, hang in there and it works out.

Happy to say this am I got a new trainer doing OTR so hope to finish this 109 hrs up in 2 weeks. Quitting is not an option, I won't quit on me, but you never know if a company will feel the same way. Looking forward to solo driving as I know my work ethic is solid.

By the way, respect those "old timers"!

All in all thanks and everyone needs advice sometimes that will make them angry enough to say not me! Spurs us on!

That is often the point of the harsh advice. It does one of two things. Either it makes you give up in which case you weren't really dedicated if you'd let some words on a computer screen make you give up. Or it lights a fire under yer hindquarters and makes you say: I'll show that son of a B****!

By the way, you can call me an SOB anytime you want, if it helps you make the best decision for you.

You know what they say? If god hands you lemons then it's time to find a new god! In other words, either man up or shut up! I'm getting into this for the challenge. Tough times shape a man (or woman) into who the are! Life isn't all punch and pies! Or lemonade and cookies for that matter! :biggrin_25523:

OK I can understand the not wanting to be stranded part, but not the smoking excuse.. most work environments are smoke free now. What would you do?

So what if you would have smoke when you could.. I guess you were never in the military..

I started smoking when I was 16 and quit when I was 30. Sept. 10th, 1983 to be exact.. you want stress.. my mother died a month later, my ex wife had an ectopic pregnancy the following year and my father died the 1985. The day before I was to take a paramedic test..

I know different people handle stress different, but I didn't start smoking again and I. Aced that test.. quit smoking. Your body will thank you..

Just a note since this smoking part seems to bring out strong opinions in the world. Smoke free environment is where you work if you have to and if you don't want that environment, you choose other area. I chose another area and can go without smoking, it's not like I am constantly with a cig. But I have to admit, in a truck, it relaxes me and I see no need at this point to quit. I know this brings out strong reactions in people and I respect anyone that wanted to quit and did. That's the key word, "wanted to quit" which at this point I feel no desire to do so. Will I six months or 6 minutes from now? Who knows...Right now, it's just who I am and I'm okay with it.

We all handle stress, problems in our own way. No right or wrong most times, just our way.

Well, I'm a female driver and don't talk much on the road, but so far it seems to me after reading a lot of posts, I sound like a lot of people so who knows..

Good luck and keep us posted how it goes with your new trainer. I am sorry to read about your loss. Enjoy your birthday and focus on the good memories as a way to celebrate your special day. I can totally relate to not wishing to add any additional stress to your training experience. I remember those few times when I was less than patient, gripping the steering wheel, fighting the urge to ... when ever I had the misfortune to run out of smokes before I could get to the TS. You are absolutely right, you don't need that:) I have quit since coming off the road but glad the traveling public didn't have to tolerate my nail biting and menopause! Good Luck, Be Safe, and Have Fun!

I smoke but my trainer wasn't ,i figured 4 weeks sneaking a puff at a bathroom etc wouldn't hurt.
You will be suprised how much you can cut down and then when you get a truck puff away(lol)
Have you ever thought about a patch until the training is done?

as a female smoker, do you have that deep sexy voice like Kathleen Turner or Lauren Bacall...????

    that's a turn on......
