Chicago Isn't too bad, I have actually waited longer in Toledo. I guess depends where your going from there
Just got back from Woodbridge today, only waited overnight and got a load straight back to Sac smartpost. Wish every week was like that
Being a local Toledo line haul extra board driver I generally do not have to wait like the OTR guys, but being local and in a day cab, the way fed ex has their system set up really sucks at South Bend or Kalamazoo. At both of those hubs they want me to be there by 12:30-1:00 a.m. and have to wait until they're done the sort at 3:00-3:30 a.m. No thanks being in a day cab, it doesn't pay enough mileage to justify sitting for 3 hours or more. Chicago for me isn't too bad if they have their heads removed from their arses that day. I have to take a 53' to the rail yard, drop that, bob tail to the Chicago hub, hope my paperwork is ready, grab a dolly, then begin the endeavor of finding my trailers which are NEVER where they say they are. Then dealing with the limited space is always an issue as well. It will get you real good at building sets or make you look like a total rookie A good day for me in Chicago is in and out in an hour or less. Fortunately they bid out our South Bend and Kalamazoo so I don't have to go there anymore. I will say the showers in Toledo do look nice I normally will run to Detroit Ground or Home Delivery, come back and then go back out to Pontiac, Ft. Wayne, Cleveland, or Lansing. Not huge miles but not usually a real long night either.
Have had good experience at Chicago last few weeks, but that was a dedicated, Sac to St Paul to Chicago to Portland to Sac. I agree the trailers are never where they say they are, if they tell you in the first place.
