Dec. (christmas week) '99, had to bobtail from Houston to Denver, a massive 2 day long ice storm hit the DFW area shortly after I rolled thru. Actually, when I went thru DFW it was raining, sometime about 11pm the rain turned to ice. All I heard on the CB were drivers complaining about their empty trailers. The only weight I had was full fuel tanks.

yeah I'll second that vote....and it doesn't matter what time of the day or what direction you're going. I've been bumper to bumper dead stopped on that one at 3am, and don't even think about it during rush hour 50 miles in either direction coming in or going out.

I can't even imagine what that one is going to be like during winter but I'm going to soon find out because I have to run it alot

Winter driving on any highway isn't bad if you slow down and drive for the conditions. Rush yourself and you're bound to spin out when you hit the brakes. If you drive the speed limit or higher on ice and snow, you're a fool.

ALL interstates in IL. they dont know how to get out there and clean up.
this last winter we had that 4 state blizzard and it took IL 3 yes i said 3 days to clean up. MO was open within 12hrs of the last flakes fallin.

I do agree with the rest that 80 across IA is a really bad one. wide open stretches with no wind blocks and definitely no snow fences to help alleviate the problems.

I live in Illinois and I do not recall any 3 day period that the roads were like that.

I have been snow bound in Wisconsin when they pull the plows off the road and do not work them.

I have been snow bound in North Dakota for the same reason.

I have been stuck in Madison WI because they closed them in Wisconsin.

But, I have never been stuck for 3 days and I doubt you were either.

your right i was stuck for 2, and only because thats when they opened 74. When i left IA, IL still had parts of other interstates closed.
