Heres another one...Back before they built I-68. Coming into Cumberland, MD was fun. 25 mph in town at the bottom of the hill hoping u werent smoking them brakes. Like others have said, brake capasity wasnt quit the same back then lol. Like the song says..."Got the Hwy 40 Blues". Dang...now Im feelin old lol. Be safe out there drivers.

You had to bring that on up...
Set a trailer brake on fire trying to slow down for a dang local at the bottom.

Went over Monteagle this morning. OK, it's 5%. Not the biggest I have been on. Nice pretty view down here in TN, but I wouldn't consider it a "worst" anymore.

Here again, this is a US highway, (US-129) these roads were "the roads" before the interstates. Those trinkets that you see in the tourist attractions in the Smoky Mountains don't just appear on the shelf magicly, they've got to be transported there.

One thing to remember is that if you do go over "the worst" often enough, it becomes no longer the worst. And of course, THAT ALONE, can get you dead.

When I was a regional driver way back when in Chattanooga I would go over Monteagle at least 2 to 3 times a week. Fun when there's snow on it. I've seen many accidents there.

Your so right. Part of the reason for 68 was a ol boy lost his brakes coming in Frostburg and bulldozed a couple homes and killed some people. People still cook the brakes on eastbound 68 all the time.
