It's funny but we never really thought about AC in those days. You'd see highway trucks with it but nobody in our line of work had it. We'd stop at creeks and water holes and stick our head in the water to cool down or just sit there and sweat.
I didn't have a truck with AC and power steering until the early eighties. I thought I'd died and gone to trucker heaven.
LOL...the first day I ran with A/C I cranked that thing down until it was cold enough in the cab to age meat. Drove from Redding to Oroville, jumped out into 115 degree weather, got hit by that heat, and puked all over my boots.

I probably knew your Dad, at least by sight. In those days we'd help each other tie down and tarp. It didn't matter that the name on the door was different, the guy you helped today might be helping you tomorrow.
It was an unwritten rule that if you had a flat the next guy behind you would stop and help you change it. If there was time there might be three or four guys stop.
I was lucky. I learned from some real old timers...guys from the chain drive, gas pot, and spoked wheel days. When those guys finally accepted you you could figure that you'd earned it.Speed_Drums and Rugerfan Thank this. -

That was in the early 90’s. I ended up being the night partner for the chicken as well in 2015. He just kept going and going.
