loveland pass is a pain, cause of the narrow steep winding roads, its the most screwed up idea

Salt River Canyon was kind of crazy. Especially after watching a Dodge Ram with a trailer full of hay fly by with his brakes smoking to high hell only one mile down it. I thought for sure we'd either see him turn into a fireball or crash. Absolutely beautiful drive though.

There is a small hill going by Ricketts Glen state park that is 18% on PA 487 that when snow covered can be a bit of a pain trying to hold traction and still maintain forward momentum. Not much of a run shot from the bottom and when coming back down it there is a stop sign to address.

For 'major roads', I'd say Homestake in winter going east is fun when it's getting slick. Not because it's difficult, per se, but because it feels like it takes forever.

The scary ones are off the beaten path. US6 near Galeton, PA in winter can be a nightmare. US24 WB into Buena Vista, CO in an ice storm that rolled in as I was clearing the top of the hill is two hours I will never, ever, ever forget. Truck kept sliding to the left due to the banking of the road. LEO came up behind me from around the 10 or so cars and put his lights on and backed off a hundred yards or so to make sure cars didn't do anything stupid. Took the hill at about 2-5mph all the way. Any slight wheel turn or extra pressure on the brakes caused the truck to start to slide. Finally got down to Gunsmoke TWO HOURS later, cop turned his lights off and proceeded ahead while I turned in to get some much needed rest.

    US2 and US302 in NH has a couple of doozies. VT9 has a 9%.

US12 in Montana between I-90 and Helena has a steep long grade going east. UT-30 has a tough one going west bound if you're in winter weather. They warn you by saying "6% next mile", not bad. At the end of the mile, is another "6%, next mile", and again, and again. It's actually like a 5 mile and the last mile has a hard hairpin before reaching the bottom.

I'm glad I mostly stay on the big roads. The scariest for me was Loveland and that was because I was a passenger. I made the mistake of looking down outside the passenger window. Told my co-driver I found a shortcut.

Deuce of Clubs highway 60 Az on the way to the copper mines north of Globe Will make a man out of ya in a hurry. One trip in out up and down automatically removes you from rookie status. And yeah if you dump it over the side there, that's where it stays. Two miles down at the bottom of the canyon. Makes Wolfe creek look like speed bumps. Do it twice in a day and you need sleep lol.

There's another one in Or. Can't remember the highway number 66 maybe? Around Klamath Falls over to medford,it's worse. No guard rails and straight down. I ran it bobtail, and it was all I wanted lol.

I got the poo scared out of me on Monarch pass one day. Started snowing like crazy, road slicked up way too fast. Couldn't hit the brakes, couldn't keep the trailer straight behind me off the throttle. All I could do was go faster. Finally found a slight incline and locked her down and let her go sideways till I got on low side of trans. Of course they closed the highway two seconds behind me lol. Bear followed me down and offered encouragement and coffee "if" I made the trip.
